Just fresh strings for me is enough to reach Nirvana (...Peg winders - even on a drill - only slow me down

Playing on stage through a big PA and feeling the bass through my feet!
The sound of old flatwounds on a P-bass with the tone control halfway down, through a big old 2x15, in perfect symbiosis with a kick drum, and a tasteful guitar player doing his thing on top of it.
Rotosound SB66 that have been played for a couple hours, a good playing P/J bass, a GK RB series head doing its' thing on top of two NEO 212s, a good crowd and a couple good bandmates.

Blending in with the other instruments and hearing the whole become something better than the sum of the parts.
A grooving drummer on a stage with reasonable stage volume and my rig about shoulder blade high so it gives me a big Bear hug of fat warm bassiness. I can live without anything else being awesome. Give me those three things and you'll see me grin all night....or all through the church service.
...Playing a great set and seeing people enjoying and dancing to the groove...
Hitting that open E string and feeling the ports flappin your jeans.
I always play lively strings (re-string every six weeks). My joy is praising and helping others to praise. 
Walking into a shop and actually seeing a left-handed bass.
Playing drums along to my pre-recorded bassline and thinking to myself, "hey, that bass sound is pretty good for what we are doing here. nice and thick with some hair. I like it."
Pulling off lead vocals while simultaneously connecting with the drums so well it almost sounds like one instrument. Nothing puts me inside the song as deeply as that.

Locking in a groove, connecting with the other musicians and connecting emotionally (or dance-ally) with an audience.
Playing with musicians who know what they are doing.
Playing almost every bloody Squier within an hours drive of home, finding two picks of the litter, but only being able to pick up one, fast forwarding half a year, ready for a new bass, start the driving around, find the other Squier is still on the shelf. Still play almost every bloody Squier within an hours drive of home.
Jazz, then Jag. The only thing that annoys me, I should have played the P's, the Dimensions and the one VI I saw, I might have two or three more superlative Squiers still waiting out there for me!

Watching my kids dance around, while Daddy practices... How they dance to RUSH I'll never know, but they do... just glad they're having a good time.
