Taking my amp off of mute and diving into the 1st song of the set and not having the sound man tell me to turn down . Sadly it happens maybe one out of ten gigs . What makes it worse is having some Yahoo from the crowd run up to the stage and scream " I can't hear the bass " . Guess what , time to shut out the world and dig in but deeeep. This is what we choose so make the best of it . Rock on !!!

Bass Happiness Is...

Bass happiness for me is playing on stage with my two daughters and watching the interaction and smiles on their faces when a gig is going well.
I'm not in this video as I was doing sound and recording and just added the bass after the fact but it's a decent representation of their playing.
They're currently 13 and 16 years old.

Practicing until I can flawlessly play difficult passages with confidence at speed.
For me it's when I'm reading a bassline and my fingers hit the strings, without thought or effort, and the tone and rhythm are perfect.
That's the performance level to which I aspire and that motivates me to continue, as I see my proficiency develop.

I always play lively strings (re-string every six weeks). My joy is praising and helping others to praise.
do you find the very high-end gear you have increases the joy?
Like would it be as joyful/less so/more so on 'normal' gear?
I have been surprised to see that a lot of P+W guys seem to have higher end gear....I had never thought that would be the case (in a John 3 kinda way..)

Playing live with people more talented than I am, real musicians who push mediocre me to become better and better. With flats and tort on a P bass of course!

I don't much like green basses, or tort 'guards, or maple necks........ but I really like that.
Thanks Mr_O'B. I probably wouldn't say great..... but very lucky that I get to share music with my kids.

LOVE that color and the fact that you can still see the wood grain through the finish. Looks awesome, great job.

Bass happiness… being inside of an improv jam where your playing is a leading part of the total waves crest - where you're on automatic pilot playing effortlessly while digging the flow/groove jointly as a listener. (… more specifically bass nirvana) Not leading the conversation, but helping to steer it.
Bass happiness for me is still still loving to play just as much as I did when I first started playing almost 25 years ago, learning new playing techniques and the perpetual search for "that particular sound" that I strive for.
