"Bass Language" you use.. that no one else understands

Unfortunately, mine is not funny.

As I do all my musical related stuff in English, I use the normal C-D-E-F-G-A-B, unfortunately I live in Spain where everyone seems to have learned Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Si (yes, it's SI in Spanish), so you can immagine the hassle I have whenever I try to Jam with friends! :(

It depends on the company I am around:

General public/non musicians/ most guitarists ;): everything I say is a mystery

Other bass players: get mostly everything unless they are way older than me or way younger; sometimes my "rock" buddies don't get what I mean when I talk about cadences, major, minor, 7ths etc....

Drummers: will sometimes get my "speak" about rhythms and the pocket. Drums is my primary instrument so I pretty much "live" in that world of vocab and can translate easily

I guess when I am talking about my playing or elements of the activity, I don't use a lot of "secret code" unless I am joking around. I do refer to the low end created as "ass" thanks to my friend Andy who always called it that back in the day.

¡Sí, señor!

***************

I was at a "History of the Blues Gig" where my Delta Blues Duo started the night off before an Electric Chicago Blues outfit was followed by a British Blues-rock band. Unfortunately my guitarist broke a string, so while he was restringing I had to fill "dead air" and gave some history of bass slapping and mentioned notable slappers such as Willie Dixon, Ransom Knowling and Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup. I was intent on filling the gap while the gitwrist restrung and didn't notice all my friends in the audience, not to mention other patrons, laughing their asterisks off every time I mentioned slappers, such as Lee Rocker etc. I kept going on and on about slapping... My #@$%^&* guitarist didn't tell me he'd finished restringing – the Idiot was waiting for me to finish talking and I was waiting for him to finish restringing so we could get on with the music...

I probably shouldn't have waited for the dang guitarist, I should've just entertained the crowd by playing with myself and show them different slapping techniques, and he could've joined in when he was ready...
