Were they sponsored by Aqua Net Hairspray? I think they got their hairdo idea from Wayne Cochran. He co-wrote Last Kiss and originally recorded it. "Last Kiss" is a song released by Wayne Cochran in 1961 on the Gala label. It failed to do well on the charts. Cochran subsequently re-recorded his song for the King label in 1963. It was covered by many acts including J. Frank Wilson & The Cavaliers, Wednesday, and Pearl Jam who all had a hit with the song.

Yep... That's pretty spot on. It's no coincidence I've held the same weight for almost 30 years.
