Bass neck seam split

If the neck on a bass is solid, straight, and the truss rod works, anything else can be fixed fairly easily. The bass you’re looking at fails my criteria - no way I’d want that to be my bass.
 
Probably caused by waaay over tightening the truss rod to compensate for other issues. Basically the truss rod is trying to come out of the neck.

yup. I had an older US Foundation show up with this exact issue, as explained to me be the luthier who was attempting to set it up. The truss rod was trying to blast its way out of the heel of the neck like the creature in Alien. That neck had some ski jump as well, but I can't recall if that was directly related. It's not a fun problem.

Significant neck problems make me want to run, doubly so if I'm buying sight unseen.

I own an older Peavey and have heard about this problem before. The necks are very stable, mine has never needed much adjustment and is easily my lowest action, best player. You might be right about truss rod adjustment being a probable cause, but it could just be the design. Two hard rock maple pieces of wood under constant pressure , seems like the joint would be the strong part at the seam. Even though the joint is stronger at first, the rock maple outlasts the adhesive. Depending on where and how the Peavey spent it’s life, it is the biggest factor in neck joint failures I’ve noticed in Peavey necks from my less than authoritative
POV.

Do they really use two pieces of wood for the fingerboard though? I’ve never seen that.
