Double Bass Bass parts for copyrighted works

I'm looking for a clean copy of the bass part for a symphony (Prokofiev's 5th) that's in copyright and isn't on IMSLP (nor is it in one of the Zimmerman books). It looks like scores are easy to buy, but I want just the bass part for personal practice. I'm happy to pay for the intellectual property, but it seems like there aren't standard sources of things like this. Am I overlooking something obvious?

The excerpts for Prok. 5 are in Volume III of the Fred Zimmerman excerpt books.
Time was when real music stores carried individual parts, particularly those close to music schools. I bought any number of parts from Patelson's back in the day.
The piece is not yet public domain in the USA, so not available to you on IMSLP. Looks like it's fair game in Canada, so you could find a Canadian to download it for you.
I have other parts for Prokoviev from Kalmus, so you might contact them to see if the individual part is available for sale. My go-to real music store is Theodore Front here in California. Email them and they will know if it's available for sale. Invalid Link Removed.

If you want a complete bass part to Prokofiev 5 you might check with a large music university music library where you’ll at least find a score or with a music librarian of a local university symphony or civic orchestra. You could also contact the publisher directly and see if you can work out a deal with them. Great piece!

I have played it twice about a decade ago. It’s a real treat! I especially enjoyed playing the inner two movements. I’d like to think I’ve improved a lot since then but I’m eager to stack the deck in my favor.

If you like Prokofiev 5 you should also check out the cantata Alexander Nevsky if you haven't already, it's cataclysmic. As far as the music goes, I'll check my copies from previous concert series, I might have one I can scan for you.

I couldn't find it in my stacks of photocopies, sorry. I know I've played it at least twice in orchestras, it's a popular symphony by him. I looked at the IMSLP listing and it's actually public domain in Canada if you know somebody there that could help you.

Yes, somebody helped me out, thanks! I also ordered the appropriate Zimmerman book. I would love to find a general solution to this problem, too, but normally I'm working on music that my orchestra can get me parts for and this is a one-off.

Agree! The Crusaders in Pskov sounds like the end of the world.

Yeah that Schippers recording is one of the best. I got the chance to see Thomas Schippers conduct the Cincinnati Symphony many times, it was a big loss for the musical world when he passed prematurely. In fact, I attended the last concert he conducted with the CSO, it was Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.
