Bass Player Action Figures

One from my own past that I forgot… used to keep one of these in my bass case:
I had forgotten about this one, buried in a jar of old pins and buttons: The "upright" version of the California Raisin bass player, in lapel pin form. It was too bulky to really work well as a lapel pin (it would just tip forward), so I never wore it. It was funny, though:

Last year, when I was browsing around a Five Below store by my workplace, I stumbled across a Funko Gold Edition Joan Jett. I just knew I had to get it for a friend of mine who's a guitarist, drummer...and a huge fan of Joan!¹ Getting it for her was a complete no-brainer!

Later that year, the same Five Below had, not one, but two Funko Gold Edition Duff McKagan vinyls. I reached out to the same friend, who's wife their band's bassist, to see if she would want one. Straight away, she confirmed she was a fan...and that said wife's birthday was coming up! Now, they each have their own Funko Gold figures directly from yours truly! And, since I rather like Duff, too, and the price was pretty damn good ($5 a pop, instead of $20! :greedy:), I have one hanging out on the top of my computer desk, too!

¹: True story...when me, said friend and my mom made our first-ever trip to the New York City in 1983, we had to stop by the Hard Rock Cafe, just to say we did. Well, lo and behold, Joan Jett and friends were at a nearby table. Either my mom or our friend was all like, "Omigod! That's Joan Jett!!" Twelve-year-old me said, "Why don't you go over there and get her autograph?" Quite bashfully, my friend was all like, "Oh, no! I couldn't!", so I say, "Okay, I'll do it."

I respected Joan and all, but I didn't live in that level of awe of her. So, I sauntered over and said, "Ms. Jett? My mom and friend are big fans. Could I get them an autograph, please?" She didn't give me one autograph...

...she gave me two, one for each of them!

Cool as a cucumber, she waved to them, scooped up a couple of napkins, signed them them, said something very nice to me which I wish I could remember verbatim and I went back to our table...easy peasy! She was wonderfully chill and laid back about the whole thing! To be fair, the fact that she was asked by a polite, twelve-year-old may have been a deciding factor in her behavior. Either way, it was a helluva way to cap off our very first trip to The Big Apple!
