Bass Player "No-No's" With Fines

$50 for teaching the guitarist the 'right chords'.
$50 for using the following words inappropriately: sibilance, resonant frequency, notch filter, Aeolian, glottal stop, etc.
$1000 for asking the Sound guy if he's even tuned the PA to the room.... while talking through the microphone.

Here's an old list I've had around for years. Enjoy.

I have a feeling you are a rapidly aging old man

I have never needed to use a back up bass, but I have never needed to use a back up amp, PA or anything else either ( other than the one time one of my monitors caught on fire). Nevertheless, I have at least one spare EVERYTHING in the trailer. Having it and not needing it is far more acceptable than needing it and not having it. This is called being professional.

I would be guilty of many of these.

-Slapping at sound check? I do this because it is conceivably the loudest I will be. Sorry, but many sound guys like a super hard smack on the E so they know what is the loudest I will ever be.

-$5000 for using a guitar cab... I loved my Marshall 1960A filled with 12s. It rocked.

-Played Schism during a soundcheck cause we had an out of town tool fan there, and we got through the song cause I started it.

As for that long list... Most of us are not in the Max Weinberg 7, and don't have bone players, or touch on Jaco enough to mix up two songs. That list is old and out of date.

These are funny though.

Showing up at a gig with more than one bass: $50.00

Ouch. I take 3 to every outing: One with flats, one with rounds and a fretless...

- $50 for each incident of inappropriate slapping.

I'd like to see this double for each subsequent offense throughout the night. $300 additional tax for slapping any song released before 1980.

There should be some offsetting rebates though.

  • +$100 for being the only one at the gig with a tuner.
  • +10/set for each cable loaned to guitarists
  • +10/set for electrical extension cord/power strip rental
