Bass Player "No-No's" With Fines

I don't think a secondary bass is necessary. Unless you're can't remember the last time you checked the 9 volt in your fancy active bass.

Penalty for battery dying during a set with no backup.....$350 and you have to tongue check the brand new 9 volt that you'll probably have to bum from the clubs sound man.

A back up bass is fine. Playing more than one bass (switching basses during gig) is a no no and reserved for tool guitar players.

I don't get how bassists break their strings... I have never broken a string and I usually use .045-.1 strings on my basses.

When I was playing four nights a week, I broke an e string every week. The local music store loved me.

Turned out my amp was too small so I was playing to hard.

I mean, I could imagine breaking the G if I go really, very, quite-intensely hard on it with a pick, or something. But the E? Never do I think I'll have to restring a bass because I broke the E. Maybe I just have a bit of a lighter touch than most.

A fine for a backup bass is dumb. It should be the other way around. A fine for Not carrying a backup.

Bingo! I play shows every now and then with a guitar player who not only doesn't bring a backup, but rarely has strings..... and occasionally breaks them! To this day, my Box of Doom (big metal case with all of my spare crap in it) has guitar strings in it, 9s, 10s and 11s.

Walking up to any other bass player at their show and saying any sentence that begins with "Hey man. Why don't you play a ______?" - $4 gagillion ($4.5 gagillion if you laugh when you say it.)

Gotta have at least 2 set up for different sounds. If we're the only band all night, I'll add a fretless. But bringing them and not playing them? Bonus fine (especially the fretless).

For me they don't actually break clean, they just seem to come unwound at either the bridge or the nut...it may always be the bridge. It's a been a while since I broke one, but nobody noticed.
