That's a little accusatory, and completely irrelevant to what I said. Of course there are fantastically interesting and famous jazz bassists who do combine groove and melody, I was referring to those who don't. It's important to hold down the bottom, no doubt, but I personally cannot channel a large variety of emotions through walking bass lines. Give me some bossa, and I'm happy though.
