Bass purchases for 2011

I am getting a 6 string Pacello bass from one of my friends. Alvaro Pacello is a master builder from Urugay that builds sweet basses :P

I need a new bass rig I will either choose Ampeg svt 4 pro with a Bergantino AE410 if my budget allows it.

Otherwise a Hartke LH1000 + HX410 + HX115. which turns out to be half the price.

I sometimes need to share my rig for other bands, I would have a hard time sharing the berg setup... So I may end up with Hartke :)

Remember whatever gear you get, you can't replace fingers. So a lot of shed + getting an advanced teacher for me this year :)

Cheers

I've been working on making a custom j bass off of warmoth. I have the alder body with black gloss finish ordered and also the birdseye maple neck with a Macassar ebony fretless fingerboard. But these won't be here for awhile. I'm putting all Hipshot hardware on with either wizard or bartolini pickups on it. And that's what I'm working on for this year!

I'm determined to get my hands on a Dingwall Z3. Ever since I saw the bass in progress post here (can't remember where exactly), I've been obsessed with the Z3.

Got to have it! The bummer is, I'm going to NAMM next month and part of the reason was to get my hands on a Z3. Turns out the Dingwall is not going this year. . . BUMMER!

Maybe a Fender Road worn P bass. Also, I'm thinking about down sizing my rig. I might sell my '73 SVT and 810 and go with a much smaller, and lighter, rig with a VT pedal that I just bought from JimmyM.
On a side note, I did the same thing last year with my SVT 4 pro and a 6x10 Mesa Road Ready down to a Markbass 102p and a Markbass 1x15 bottom.

Haven't looked back since. Not quite the depth and warmth but, a fraction of the weight and sonically, I get more compliments on my tone now than I did before. Maybe the MB stuff is clearer and cuts more? ? ? ? .

I do know, it's saved my back plus for small gigs, I can use just the 102p combo and I'm good to go!

i'm done buying basses.

Me too. I'd love a Wal 5er and a Tony Franklin, but I prolly won't get them anytime soon. I have all the manufactured basses that I need covered (Ric, P, J, fretless, 5er), so my focus this year is on improving the way I play them - particularly fretless.

I guess I do have a purchase in mind though, and that's building my own. So I'll be buying fine woods, nice necks and good hardware.

I'm expecting a few in 2011...

1) Marleaux Consat Sopran - this one is a high-end piccolo bass that I have to wait until after NAMM for.

2) Valenti Vintage Jazz 4-string - CAR with matching stock, rosewood board with white blocks & binding and pickguard, Aguilar pickups with Sadowsky preamp. April timeframe

3) ZON Vinny VB5H - I just traded for this one and it's currently in customs, coming from Canada.

I'd like to say I'm done after this, but I always lie to myself.

My buddy just lent me his 75 Fender P he doesn't think he's going to sell it. But now that I've played it I know I need to own it. So gonna offer him a bunch of money for it hopefully he goes for it. After all he's jus some guitar player, what does he need a bass for? :)
