I've been playing bass since January this year and Im pretty good (non arrogant). I really want to get a Rockbass Fortress but Ive never played one so Im not sure and im not ready to order. I played a Stingray and it was the greatest bass ive every played. My dad wants me to get the Musicman but I dont think im good enough. He thinks its a waste to get the Rockbass and I should just keep saving for a MM. Ive only owned 1 bass and I think Id be better off get the Rockbass as my second bass purchase. Opinions?

Bass purchasing dilemma

Squier, no offense. No way you are that good to deserve either. Just get a Squier or a mexican fender, or maybe an asian one.
save for the music man, you dont need to be good enough to qualify owning a great instrument... and it is unwise to purchase an instrument which you have not had the chance to try. Warwicks are NOTHING like MM basses. if you like the MM, save and get that. you will not regret it.

instrument quality is not ranked by what a player DESERVES to have... this guy is new to bass, and may very well end up being twice as good as any of us on here with a little practice.
Hold out and play other basses whenever you can. Your opinion of what bass sounds best will change as you play more, so if it were me I'd wait until I had a firm idea of what tone I was aiming for before spending a good chunk of change.
Also, if you don't already have a decent amp, I'd invest there first. A crappy amp will ruin a great bass.

if you want the MM, save up for it and buy it... why? if you want to continue playing bass, why not get the best you can afford? there is nog good enough for anything, just get what you can get...*
good advice.
Do save up your money a little bit and hold off on the rockbass. as you try new things out, you never know what you may find you love.
and a decent amp really is more important than a nice bass.

There is no problem buying a Stingray if you are only about 6 months playing. You say yourself that you are already good at bass. Why not get a decent instrument right away then.

Either you are gonna be glad you bought the Stingray, or you can buy a Rockbass later as your back up bass.

i would not buy a rock bass, simply because it is not holding on to its value when you want to sell it. i would buy a real warwick instead....ever thought to buy a used one?

Get the bass YOU want and don't worry about whether you think you are good enough...cause it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that you are happy with your bass.
we need to hear some clips of you playing, then we can decide whether you're even worthy enough of for a new bass.
KIDDING! Listen to your pops and get the MusicMan. Grade B instruments discouraged me because there had shapr frets, sounded bad, looked like crap, chrome was to shiny, neck was thick, pickups sounded bad. etc. If you get a pro grade instrument on your second shot (lucky man), go for it. You;d thank yourself that you did a few years down the road, simply because with the rockbass, you'd want to upgrade. no doubt about it.

edit: sometimes, there are decisions that shouldn't be made by you and you'll realize that after you make them. after i bought my sr400 i was like yeah! i got jipped lost money and was like NO! i could've gotten a MUCH better bass for the money. dang!

Well, I was playing Warwicks yesterday when I was testing like every bass the store had and I hated the Warwick neck but I played a Vampyre Rockbass and the neck was pretty good.
Right now I play a SDGR Ibanez (Soundgear) I got it for $400 and I have a Kustom KBA16 amp.

Its an Ibanez Soundgear. The headstock says SDGR by Ibanez. Its black with a really faded green zebra-esque sunburst.

I only have 2 songs on their. My bass is getting a touch up right now at the shop which is where I played all the basses. Ill have back on Tuesday, and Ill put more vids up then.

I had a Rockbass, and it was a nice little cheaper priced bass.... but I still think I pay a little too much for it. I would take a step back and take your time looking; you might find something you might like even more than both basses you just mentioned. Thats the fun of getting a new bass! Spending all that time try new ones out

I would play try and find a fortress to play first, you might not end up liking. Or if you really want it over the musicman, then just go for it. If you have a taste for it before playing it, maybe you could learn to adapt if something on it wasn't to your liking. Also what bass do you have right now? What amp? Even if you're not playing with a band or anything having a nice amp can make a world of difference to the bass you already have. Besides it would be a shame to get a nice Warwick or Musicman and be running through some 5" 10 amp. Though that's just my view, there are some very good small sized amps out there but I'm guessing everyone kind of understands what I'm going for right? 
Also your "skill" level has nothing to do with what you can and cannot buy instrument wise. If I had the money I probably would of bought a Alembic, I was obsessed with them as a kid, just didn't have the money or the smarts to save my money instead of going out to the movies and stuff of teenager memories.

Don't let anyone tell you what you deserve, whatever your ability is, If you want to save for a more expensive bass then by all means do it's your money.
