a bill wyman special.
nice looking even with the poor quality photoProbably the only one I really miss, or feel as though I missed out on, was a Zon Sonus Special model. The silly thing being, I sold it because I thought it wasn't 'all that'.
It played very well and it sounded pretty good, but it didn't sound like a million bucks to me. It had a good tone, but it wasn't a head-turning tone. Maybe that's fine. At the time, if a bass didn't blow me away in my bedroom and in a live setting, it wasn't worth hanging onto. I sold the Zon after about six months and replaced it with a Limited Edition 1990 Warwick Steamer with Barts, and that bass was killer! It played well and sounded incredible, very much sounding like a Spector. It was solid maple after all!
I don't miss that amazing Warwick at all but I miss the Zon I never really bonded with and I feel as though maybe six months wasn't long enough to let that bass impress me.
I also regret not taking many pictures of the Zon. The ones I have are all pretty crappy, like this...

ric's are definitely a different animal. I currently own 4 basses, one being a ric but it will never, ever be my #1.I still own 5 of the 9 basses I've ever owned. Of the other four, definitely no regrets about three of them: two were pretty crappy, one was fine but nothing special. I still have the occasional mild regret about this Ric, owned from '87-'88:

The thing is, I really didn't like it as much as I thought I would. It was heavy as hell, the neck seemed "slow" and it really didn't sound the way I'd hoped. As a poster upthread mentioned, I think I miss the idea of the bass (and my youth ... ) more than the actual bass, and wouldn't really want to own a Ric now.
Yah, don't get me wrong: very cool instrument. Just not for me, as it turned out.ric's are definitely a different animal. I currently own 4 basses, one being a ric but it will never, ever be my #1.
