bass regrets

View attachment 3089579 View attachment 3089578

Guess I might have added a bit more for clarity. The top is a '66 Jazz Bass. My very first pro bass bought new but that photo is not my actual bass.

The lower is an early '90s Modulus M92-5 "Sweetspot". It's always gonna be "the one that got away". Never sell in a weak moment what you cannot easily replace.

I’ve always thought that JB w/the batching painted headstock was the sharpest looking bass ever.

what bass did you once own that you now most regret getting rid of? mine's a toss up between a white P bass marked feb '65 and a blond '68 tele bass with the telephone pole neck. started playing in the early 70's and have owned and gotten rid of countless basses but those two still bring a tear to my eye when I think about them.

Can’t say I’ve regretted selling a bass. 1 Amp yes. Anything else, no.

Funny thing is I'd tried to buy a '63 PBass from a friend. His Dad got it for him and he never learned to play it but he didn't want to sell. So when the band walked into the music store with our manager who agreed to sign for all new gear for us there on the wall hung that LPB '66 kinda like the Strat in the glass case Mike Meyers thirsted after in Wayne's World and it became mine.

Less than a year later that same friend in want of buying a car finally agreed to sell me his PBass for $225. :greedy:

So I bought it as well but both have been gone for so long now I can't even recall exactly when I sold or traded them. It was all just gear back then. New or used and no one had a clue of what that stuff might eventually be worth.

i regret getting rid of all of my older stuff. '98 fender american jazz in lake placid blue, '98 ampeg svt-cl and 8x10 cab (i think a band member still has the amp/cab somewhere lol), 2004 black stingray 4h with rosewood fretboard, 2004 mesa boogie bass 400+ with 2x15 mesa cab with EV speakers...not sure what year that cab was. it had the silver grill on it like the newer ones but still used the older EV speakers.

As I got older, they were tools, well-enjoyed and well cared for, but still tools, so I lost most emotional attachments to them. I enjoyed them in their time, and when the time was up, off they went for whatever was next or #1 on the 'Gotta Get Me One of Them!' list.

I will admit, however, I do have a soft spot and miss probably the lowliest of all that came thru my hands. I had a BB400 Yamaha, an idiot simple single P bass in a sort of peanut-brittle natural finish with a rosewood board. Absolutely nothing exceptional build or feature-wise, but I've always missed it ever since. And I can't really give you a good reason why. Oh well . . . . .

My BB400 was the dark brown one. My first “serious” bass, it rather lacked output so I put a Seymour Duncan in it, which helped.

I have not been in the situation you describe. However, I let a really nice Ripper escape me a few months ago because I tried to go less than an already great price of $1,200 and I am kicking myself in the head ever since because I haven't seen one anywhere as nice for anywhere near that low a price.

I let this slip through my hands because of a lousy $50!

My Status Shark passive 5 string, which I bought new in 98/99. I sold it to fund a Stingray 5 about two years later. Now I don't own either, but I'd love to get another Shark, the neck was really nice. They're very rare nowadays!

live and learn. I would have grabbed that at $1,200.

Maybe, just maybe, my SR 505.
But then, it was Indonesian and I have a Korean 905 now, which has a neck through, string through building that I like better. It's only "drawback" is that it's a converted-to-fretless so I don't really know how it sounds stock and I also had to tune it E to C because the B was pure mud. But it is a better bass than my former 505 so not so much a regret.

My modulus m-92 "sweetspot" 4. A combination of not really knowing what I had coupled with the fact that it had began to get a noticeable amount of relief in the neck. Out of fear of trying to track down another neck I parted with it. I regret it now lol.

If I could still own every guitar and bass that I ever owned, I would. The 2 basses that I would really love to have back are my blue Charvel 2B and my Ibanez 20th Anniversary 20th 5 Soundgear bass that I bought off of a member on here. If I can find another one that is either a 4 or 5 string, all original, in good shape and has everything it came with new, (original case, leather strap and certificate of authenticity), I would do whatever I could to get it. If it’s my actual 20th Anniversary one that I used to own, someone would get a nice amount of money for it.
