Bass resolutions for the New Year?

Going deeper into GarageBand and digital. I’m trying the limited free issue of Amplitube. Just getting into it, but I’m super excited about the sound quality available. I added a Scarlett, super nice headphones, and a mini keyboard/controller, plus an extra screen to the set up. Found a great step by step Gargeband tutorial. Super fun.

This year will be all about guitar. I picked up a guitar last January, and I’ve been really enjoying the change. It’s opened up all kinds of new ideas on bass, a cool side effect.

I’ve got tons of digital capabilities with the Zoom multi fx and the line 6 pod hd500x, plus amplitube and the GarageBand stable of amps and effects. I figured retirement plus the crappy Pacific NW winters is perfect for woodshedding.

Resolutions, avoid the news, do lots of yoga, kite foil, hike in the woods and play music. Try to dodge any job offers. Escape to Baja next winter. Next NYE in Baja, on the sea of Cortez, that’s the goal.

I'll tie my NY resolutions in with a personal project that started a couple of month before the end of the year...me: Actively working on my lifelong major depression via keeping careful tabs on my eating, sleeping, health and exercise. I made some significant changes when I started, including restarting therapy in my new home location to help support my goal of harm reduction/life improvement, eating mindfully, and exercising regularly. It took about a month of the changes before I started feeling inclined to play bass for pleasure or grab any other instruments for that matter. I dropped about 20lbs as a free side bonus before the year changeover.

When I don't treat myself like my own personal high-maintenance pet, I suffer and don't exactly make life more pleasant for those around me. It makes it a bit easier that I am my mom's home hospice caretaker and her rapidly deteriorating condition is directly related to her spending her life actively avoiding all of things that I am purposefully doing for myself. It was a revelation for me when speaking to my parent's doctors that the lion's share of their chronic health concerns were directly linked to willful personal neglect over decades and not genetics as they had been telling her over the years. It turns out that doctors do listen to you, especially when they can just code you as someone with genetic predisposition after you spend years consistently lying to them about all of the things that you haven't actually changed in your diet and health regimen. I always thought I was just doomed from the get-go. Nope. It turns out, other than Dupuytren's disease (not a fun condition and pretty persistent...mine affects a good bit more than my hands) and a disposition inclined towards addiction (already addressed years ago), I am fairly good candidate to live a generally healthy life for a couple/few more decades. I like that.

Get my Mesa back in its case with its brother and sell them and my Fender USA P .

Some good goals, and Baja sounds nice! Living in Portland I relate to gloomy winters comment, although becoming less and less so.
