Bass resolutions for the New Year?

I retired in 2020 and moved to the mountains. Prior to this I had my own band for 15 years plus other projects. Naturally I though that playing live was out. Boy was I wrong. I happened to hook up with some guys who play around 60 gigs a year. But you have to be willing to travel, mostly an hour or so in each direction.

Sounds like me! I went 2022 with no gear. End of 2023 I bought an amp, 2 basses and a guitar- and quickly felt guilty and I didn’t need any of it!

so im definitely going to try to go all year with no big purchases (amps or instruments) and even narrow it down to 4 instruments (2 electric guitars, one acoustic, one bass), stop wasting time A/Bing and just play! :)

JamPlay and Trufire combined forces and have a great sale on memberships and individual course purchases.

If I were a beginner, I would definitely consider going through Trufire's program. There are 7 complete development levels that are laid out step by step and sequenced. Plus, supplemental courses to further enhance specific skill sets are suggested at each point. Also, there's an active community for support. Thus, it looks outstanding!

Personally, I am really loving Stu Hamm's courses. But there are many great ones to check out.

The combined interface can be a bit confusing. But use Jamplay link for membership sales and check out the Trufire link for course sales.

I work at an independent living community and I’ve been observing several performers who just sit down with a guitar (sometimes just a mic), and sing and play classic songs karaoke for an hour. Oh, and they get paid pretty well. Drum machine is going, simple guitar chords are flashing across the performers’ laptops….

I am thinking about doing something like that with my bass. Maybe have a singer, backing track, and me on the bass. I’ve entertained the people for one or two songs on my guitar here and there. I even pulled out a cigar box guitar a few times. And there’s always somebody who wants to sing (I don’t like singing).

It’s not the dream gig but, the people love it.

My body is failing -big time. I don’t have much time left.
There is no possible chance that I could ever return to the stage. It’s a horrible feeling.
But, just to keep me sane, I like to think of what I would like to do, and I try as best I can to do it at home.
My vision is a band that rocks hard with a female front. Sure, think Heart, yeah been done.
Just would make me happy

I just heard "Magic Man" on the radio yesterday. It was the first time I'd heard that song, or anything by Heart, in a while. What a great band.

Unfortunately, there haven't been many great hard rocking women vocalists. Not really their thing.

The last time I saw the Wilson sisters, they were doing folksy stuff. But there's no doubt about it. From Straight On, to Crazy On You, to Dog & Butterfly, to Barracuda, to Dreamboat Annie, to Magic Man, and then to folk rock, Ann was/is amazingly versatile and powerful! And it'd be great to see and hear more hard rocking women like her.

Whatever your health issue is, I wish you the best possible outcome.
