I did my best not to look at the responses and I thought #1 was the best. After playing them all I went back to 1 and still thought so. Never heard of Belman before... are they Australian?

Yeah, the Belman is my favourite too. All the soundclips are very close so the difference is not that great when you're listening to them, but in a live situation the Belman definitely shines. It's the only 35 inch scale bass in the lineup, and it just has a great fat tone. Not that great for slapping, but it's pretty unbeatable for straight ahead finger style playing.
The Belman is Australian made, in Melbourne. But sadly the business is no more :-(
I know a few were sold in the US, but these days they're only available on the used market.
I purchased an Xotic XJ-1T 5 recently which comes close to the Belman, but is better for slapping.

I thought it was cool that all the sound clips were kind of in the same place so it really came down to which version of *that* tone worked best for you. Nice work on the clips and good luck paring down the collection!

lol interesting idea.
personally tho, i rckn its all about feel an the "bare minimum" stats- # of frets, onboard EQ, active/passive etc. the same riff played with the same eq in passive will sound pretty similar whatever u play it on.
although it would be interesting to try this with a rly metal bass, a rly round, slap type one, a jazz bass of some sort, a p-bass and maybe a crappy westfield?any takers?

as one of the guys involved in the development (I had just a very small part but was there for its birth) of the Human Base Roxy, I'm ecstatic to see that it was a favorite in listening tests. Siggi Jager is an exceptional luthier. I hope more in the US discover his amazing creations.
