"Bass-wa Watashi"

Are you serious.

In other news, i have been following user "electrosphere75" on youtube. He (guitarist) and his sister (bassist) have covered quite a few K-On songs, and quite well too.

are you sure?
I always thought that it were himself, but I might be mistaken....well you know, there are a bunch of cross-dressers in japan....like the well-known tissue hime...

I can respect your appreciation for Haruko, everyone, but best fictional bassist has got to be Mai Zaizen for me. Check out that FAT tone.

And oh yeah, if a person's youtube channel make both male and female appearances without showing the face, and seem to be using the SAME INSTRUMENTS, it's a guy.

Thanks a lot for posting this. Way cool!

I've got to learn some of those songs and I'll start looking for a Japanese schoolgirl outfit that will fit a guy who is almost two meters tall. Guess the beard has to go, though...

BTW. I put one of the pics from this thread on the desktop of my computer just for fun and had to do some serious explaining to my wife afterwards...

:D:D Which pic did it for you? Some people just don't understand. This is why you gotta hide your "power level," man!

Not Derek Smalls?
Derek Smalls is only semi-fictional

Since when Haruko is a bassist? Well, she plays for 5 secs in a episode but her Rickenbacker has more usefulness as a kick*** weapon.:bassist::bassist:
I assume she does when random robot stuff isn't happening. You know, between the times when things come out of Naota's head.

Also, I think it's odd you differentiate playing bass from using it as a kickass weapon.

:bassist:
Man, I was wondering when K-ON! would show up on these boards! I'm hooked, it's my guilty pleasure. . I just started learning bass (took piano lessons for a decade but am not great at it), and those songs are waaay out of my league...but the bass lines are awesome! Something to strive for, I guess...

Imagine if Mugi took up bass. Bet she'd master it in no time.
In that regards I bet you could too! What's great about bass is that it's so fun even in the very beginning, but there's no limit to how much you could learn from the instrument.

Watched this show after seeing this thread yesterday. It's a little cheesy but the music is actually quite good!

Spoke to a few friends of mine and apparently, Japanese pop and rock music usually feature very complicated basslines!

Oh yeah, its part of why I love anime and japanese RPG's(role playing video games for those that dont know), the basslines in the music always kick butt, I even practice with some cowboy bebop tunes from time to time. I wish people would pay as much attention to bass here.

I assume you're thinking like the guy below:

I would agree, but its a lot harder to appear as both the male and the female in the same shot. It's his sister.

Apparently the brother is a rocking good guitarist. The girl's not bad either.

Aren't most of the songs in Cowboy Bebop jazz tunes, primarily from American artists?

A bit more on-topic: Would K-on get a PG/G rating in the US? These might be great for my little girl. Plus, that would give me an excuse to watch them :ninja:

Most of the songs in the Cowboy Bebop OST are written / composed by Yoko Kanno and most of it was performed by The Seatbelts. The Seatbelts is formed by MANY MANY different artists. It's kind of hard to say that most of the tunes are from American artists.

Yeah, what Touji said, and dont be ashamed to watch anime, I never needed an excuse, lol, my excuse is the sorry state of regular TV shows right now, the only ones I like are Fringe, Bones, House and Glee, any other time if im even watching tv its discovery channel or anime.

Before you go and get a big bodipka over it, that's a guy in drag.

Yep, it's pretty easy to tell. The guys in drag usually wear long sleeves or gloves to disguise their man hands. Then there's guys like hjfreaks who makes no attempt at all to hide the fact he's a man in drag. You'd think he's poking fun at the trend, but apparently he's been doing this for a long time time. There's dozens of different people on youtube doing this though, it's not just one person.

It's pretty kid safe. It's strongly hinted that Mugi is attracted to their teacher (who is also female), but hinting is as far as that goes. I can't even think of anything else in the series anyone might find objectionable for kids. That said, K-On! hasn't been picked up for US distribution yet, and K-On!! (season 2) is still airing. It's pretty likely the rights holders want a small fortune for it.

+1.

I don't need an excuse to watch anime. I watch it because I like it.
