with her brother. Different techniques, different basses. I wish people would stop assuming all Asians on youtube are the same people (???). To top it off, ucon is Japanese, and hjfreaks (the guy in the tutu) is Korean.

Most of the songs in the Cowboy Bebop OST are written / composed by Yoko Kanno and most of it was performed by The Seatbelts. The Seatbelts is formed by MANY MANY different artists. It's kind of hard to say that most of the tunes are from American artists.

I'm not familiar with the OST. I was mostly going off of what I remember from watching the shows. What struck me was that aside from the intro and outro music, most of the songs seemd to be Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis and the like.

To be honest, I wasn't aware either! It was only till I got my hands on all the OSTs that I realized there were so many freaking songs. I personally feel the show wouldn't have been nearly as good without the OST

Anyone knows what type of wood Mio got in her Jazz bass? (Basswood or Alder?)

Like I posted before, the animators are too inconsistent with the portrayal of Mio's bass to get an accurate estimation of what model it is, exactly. Remember when they drew a Fender logo on Yui's Les Paul?

Consider the finish, for example. The intro alone for the 2nd season shows the bass in both 2 and 3-tone sunburst.

However, I guess the closeup 3D render of her bass DOES carry a bit more weight canonically (making the 3-tone sunburst the real finish, too).

From what we can see, it has the deeper-threaded bridge saddles like from the post-1959 to 1969 Fenders, which makes sense considering when the Jazz came out. However, it seems only the US-pickup-equipped MIJ basses have this vintage bridge on them.

Also, the bass has a copper grounding strip under the bridge like the 1960~1962 Fenders.

In the ending theme, the bass's headstock lacks any sort of serial number besides the Fender logo, a characteristic true of Japanese Fenders. (wish they added other parts of the logo, though. No real Fender has a headstock exactly like that)

From these facts alone, my best (stupid) guess is that Mio's bass is a US-pickup-equipped Japanese '62 RI.
Therefore, the body wood is Alder!

Ah, that's pretty neat. Never saw "Beck," and missed out when all my friends were into it.
Nothing fancy, but he holds a decent groove. Lemme guess from the tone: he plays a Stringray/MM-style bass?

Ah, now this is interesting. As much as I'm in COMPLETE LOVE with all of the Cowboy Bebop music, I do remember hearing somewhere that some of the tunes were copied from old American songs. Kanno's still my favorite soundtrack composer, though. Her tunes have this spacey quality that are absolutely great for listening to while reading/studying.

Hmm, at first the answer seemed obvious. I'd be hard-pressed to find another TV show that's filled with such utopian cuteness moe-blobness(?!).
But the series does have certain scenes you may want to confirm, first.

There are a few innocent swimsuit scenes

An ofuro scene where chest-size is discussed

And the infamous scene where a character is implied to have tripped and flashed her pantsu to the audience (nothing is directly shown).

These are the absolute worst scenes I can think of.
So depending on how sensitive your girl may be, I think the show would be perfect for getting her interested in music.

Like tissue-hime uses tissue boxes to make his mark on his videos, this girl uses stuffed toys.

You can string all her videos together by the different stuffed toys she uses. If you see the other video i posted, same person, same bass, with the pikachu mask on the floor beside her.

Well, at least that'll allow for some actual progression of the story. I was actually pretty surprised they made the main characters seniors, already. As long as they don't Kubo Tite the frickin thing into the ground, it'll be a blast the whole way through.

But the 2nd-years seem interesting enough that I'd watch a whole season of them. hmm, I can imagine Ui taking up Yui's geetah, but I wonder how they'd make Jun quit the Jazz Club and everything..

ghoulbug has it right. The 62 RI is at least what the animators are using as a model for it. The sound, however, is open to debate. Mio seems able to drop D in the middle of a song, but she doesn't have an extender on there, so there's some distorting of reality going on.

Not that that's the worst place the show distorts reality. I don't mind it, it's an anime. If I wanted reality I'd watch the news. On the other hand I wouldn't buy the bass featured in the show and attempt to emulate that sound with it because the bass being used for recording is likely something completely different. There's a video on youtube () where the bass sound is isolated from the song using the semi-instructional Band Yarou Yo album that has the songs featured minus specific instruments for play along if you want to get a good idea of what the bass used in the recording sounds like.

There's also the fact she used a P-bass in the first volume of the manga. It's probable she has more than one bass. I think of all the instruments featured in the series, hers and Mugi's are the only ones without some sort of "acquisition story".

I know that it's isolated but if pretty sure that's a Japanese Jazz Bass they use for the recordings, I emulated the sound pretty easily with my MIA Jazz Bass.

And man, I'm seriously GASing for the bass but srsly it's either the JB62/JB62-US

And on what basis did these interwebbers override the educated deductions made in this thread? For all we know, they could be some Narutard headband-wearing idiots that spent 10 minutes searching Google Japan for "Fender bass." I mean, do they mention the vintage threaded bridge saddles at all?

I can completely understand your obsession with getting the specs exactly the same as Mio's. See the short "Beisu-no Mai!" clip I posted above? That was the reason I obsessively scoured Ebay myself to find a green Pbass. I don't know how many great basses I passed up on simply because of the color.

Long story short, I was able to satiate my idol-worship GAS by settling for a Squier PJ. I'm glad I did, because I probably would have run in circles trying to find a copy of a bass that didn't exist. I still believe that the clip that inspired me wasn't even recorded using a Pbass, which is all the more ironic.

In the same way, I think you should listen to Kargma and settle for the next best thing. Who knows how many different basses were used to record the various Houkagou Tea Time hits, even within the same song! We already know how studio artists love to cheat like this... :scowl:
And as you agonize over the details, it will never be quite the same unless you get the Lefty version either, especially considering Mio's complete obsession with lefty basses.

If the reason you want the bass is to emulate HTT's bass tone, I can almost assure you that you're going about this the wrong way. However, if what you want is the fun in owning the same as Mio, that's where we can help you out.

I'm not looking for the same tone, but I'm looking for the same bass, everywhere (Shibuya, bassists and other places) indicate that the bass is the basswood version, they even made a special edition in Shibuya of the JB62/3TS
