Bass Whammy Petition!

A Boutique clone of the Bass Whammy would be even more expensive than an original one I think. Finding the parts for it would be a nightmare.

The real issue is the digital programming. You could easily build a more useful chassis with a better range, true bypass, and better durability than the Digitech... but good luck building a digital circuit and programming it to behave like the Whammy! :hmm:

Yeah, that was basically my point lol, but I couldn't think of how to word the "digital programming" bit, so I said parts instead :p

I'm really not trying to sound consescending, but I gotta say, I just don't see any real functional use for this pedal in a live "band" situation...maybe in a measure here and there......So, what would you do with it if you had it?..Would it be just a pedal to mess with around the house?...or would you gig it and use it once or twice a night?

For the price these puppies are going for on ebay, I think I would just invest in a decent head or another nice Bass...

I gotta disagree here. I guess it depends on your band situation. If you are an "in the pocket" bassist, then I agree this will probably be of little use unless you are doing Tool covers. However, in a band in which you only have one guitarist, or even do some lead work, it is VERY valuable. Particularly the 5th up/6th up and 5th up/octave up (that only exists on the Bass Whammy or XP100) harmonies. These RULE for leads, and also just for thickening up the sound under a soloing guitarist. The former sounds like you are playing a double stop, and bending it up and down a step (which sounds cool during a solo), and the latter sounds awesome in a solo, particularly with distortion

To clarify the above statement, he 5th/6th is on the current Whammy as well. The 5th/Oct is the only unique Harmony setting on the Bass Whammy.

However I think the unique to the Bass Whammy 2nd Up, 2nd Down, 4th Down settings can be very useful for making fretless-like slides.

Actually, the WH-1 (and the WH-4 consequently) has the 2nd Down mode, though it is called "Detune" on the WH-4.

Uh, Detune on the WH4 is like a chorus(jsut like on the Bass Whammy/Whammy II), more than anything, not a pitch shift. The note definitely isn't shifted a 2nd to my ears. 2nd is called 2nd on the WH4 too, since the WH4 is a reissue of the WH1 with the added Detune and Divebomb (useless) settings.

The big question is, what are people willing to pay for the new model?

A boutique maker with digital effects experience would probably be an ideal producer of a Whammy clone. Would it be cost effective? Probably cheaper than an old, used, questionable quality Digitech unit on the after market, but not likely as cheap as the price target for currently produced Digitech effects units. If the price is $300+, would it sell? Or are most people looking for sub $200?

Chunk systems claims to be able to program digital DSP effects, so I would assume that they could do this as well. As posted on these forums a while back, they are currently designing/producing a digital bass synth pedal that will rival the Deep Impact. Why not make a bass whammy clone?

When do you guys plan to submit the petition to Digitech? and do you guys have a direct contact?

Well now, Jauqo, I don't think your fellow Tber's have thought of that.:p

However, I hear there's this guy who has an endorsement deal with them here. He plays crazy fusion with subcontrabasses through a big Ashdown rig and is friends with Juan Alderte. I think he can help...

:D

I'm pretty sure anyone looking for a Bass Whammy clone or not is expecting to pay less than 200 with all do respect.

P.S. - Jauqo you're amazing, no wonder you're endorsed by so many things. I watched some of your videos and I love em...this is a little off topic but how long have you been playing?
