Bass Whammy Petition!

Okay. I started turning the wheels here and was thinking about something my brother said the other day.

Couldn't we find someone to modify the board of a current whammy to be voiced for bass? I mean what really makes it voiced for guitar or bass? It has to be electronic, probably a few capacitors or resistors on the input stage. The programmed effect would still be the same, but would effect the lower frequecies, and it could work...

Does anyone have one they would be willing to let a professional (not me or my bro) disect to figure out the input stage? It might be a $0.75 mod to the new one and you are set...

Edit: It's called "Drop Tune", so you can see how I got confused!

I'm guessing you meant the "Drop Tune and Divebomb" modes, which is the point in question, the drop tune mode is just renamed from the "2nd down" mode on the original :)

problem with this is that a lot of bassplayers want the 5th up and oct up setting (as used in 46 by 2 from Tool???) which isn't on the whammy 4...

That is Incorrect my fellow TB'er.....Justin actually uses the Bass Whammy for a number of TOOL songs...Go ahead and google justin chancellor and wikipedia has the list for you....and if you listen closely then you will actualy understand what the bass whammy is capable of.

Here's the list of songs with the Whammy:

Digitech Bass Whammy - Used on "Eulogy" (fifth up/sixth up harmony), "Third Eye (octave up)," "Schism" (octave up), "Lateralus" (octave up), "Disposition" (fifth up/octave up harmony), "Vicarious" (octave up harmony), "The Pot" (octave up), "Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann)" (octave up) and "Right In Two"(fifth up/sixth up harmony).

While it's possible that the input stage is non-optimal for bass, I would bet that almost all of the "voicing" is strictly digital, embedded in the software.

Edit: also, read the posts above and below about the actual issue with the Bass version. It's not that the regular one rolls off lows, it's that it lacks a particular harmony setting. Strictly software.

Well, I meant songs that could not be played without a BASS whammy.

Disposition, IMO, is the only song that would require a bass whammy, as the current model does not include the 5th up/Oct up position. You could do any of the others on the normal whammy, since the other settings JC are on the current model.

Ummm....Maybe You didn't read the list of songs it was used on. But dispostion, Euogy, and Right in Two use the 5th up/6th up harmony feature.

So if you don't like playing those songs then no big deal i guess. But honestly its the coolest feature on the whammy. Otherwise it wouldn't cost what it does if it just had all the exact features as the current model. But you already knew that, right?

SIGH...I'll tell you in full.

I like basically a lot of Tool songs. I know Justin Chancellor uses the whammy on a lot of songs. For most songs, it's not much of a biggie. The current whammy model has one octave up shift, and 5th up/6th up. So if I had a Whammy 4, I could play Schism, Lateralus, Eulogy and Right in Two.

But the Whammy 4 doesn't have 5th up/one octave up. So I can't play Disposition with a Whammy 4. If I wanted to play Disposition, I would have to shill out big bucks for a Bass Whammy.

Nobody is disputing that. We all know Justin uses the Bass Whammy.

What they're saying is that with Disposition being the only current exception, anyone who isn't Justin Chancellor can play any Tool song that uses a Whammy with the current Whammy IV. The Whammy IV has all the settings Justin uses in Tool songs except for the 5th/Oct setting he uses on Disposition.
