BassCliff's NBD! Kiesel (Carvin) PB5

Hello friends,

Just a quick post to let you know that my long-awaited new bass arrived yesterday. It's beautiful. It's a pretty stock Fender-esque five string, ash body, maple neck, ebony fingerboard, passive P/J pickups, and a tobacco burst finish that I really like. Pictures? Sure, I got pictures.

The gig bag is pretty nice. I'll use it for a while until I get another SKB case for it.

I haven't plugged it into an amp yet. I have gigs Wednesday and Thursday night so I'll bring it, at least use it during sound check, but might not play it all night. I think I'm going to have to tweak the setup to my liking. We'll see. I tend to play aggressively sometimes and I noticed a couple of buzzes when I hit it hard. But I know we'll have a long-lasting relationship. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

It's a beauty! Tobacco burst. I too play a little agressively and usually have to tweak mine as well.

Enjoy! Will this be your main gigging bass?

hi Cliff :)

Sorry for coming late to the party.

Pictures? Sure, I got pictures.

Very nice!

Mine got her a little quicker than I thought it would. I think the website says ten to twelve weeks but it arrived in seven.

Santa helped to get it in time for Christmas. Looks like you were a good boy this year. :D

Happy NBD!!! :hyper::hyper::hyper:

Ah ha! I just saw a pic on FB of you with this new Kiesel and wondered if you had come here to chat about it. I got a Kiesel made Carvin PB5 last year. Passive and chambered. 9.4 lbs. Love it. Growls wonderfully.

I remember a seafoam green PB5 on Reverb about a year and a half ago. So many times I considered hitting the Buy button on that. I'd really like a second five-string P-style bass to go along with my American Standard Precision V, especially considering there just are no where near the number of five-string Precision options as there are Jazz options.

I just hope Kiesel has moved away from those cheesy Gotoh knock-offs. I have four Carvins and every single one has had at least one stock tuning machine replaced after the stem snapped while tuning up to 440. :( I've replaced most with real Gotohs and they've been fine.

I believe I read on the Kiesel/Carvin page (on FB) that the soft case does a better jpb protecting instruments as it absorbs impacts better than a hard case and doesn't transfer them to the instrument.
Another advantage of the soft case is you don't have to worry about denting cars, walls, etc.

I have a Mono Vertigo gig bag. I tested it by putting a bass inside and letting it tumble down my basement stairs. The bass was fine!

Even though the Kiesel is a ‘soft’ bag, it’s still quite rigid. Similar to a Protec Contego kinda.

beautiful bass Cliff...I love the simplicity of that bass..so, clean..and that finish is spectacular! I have to say Carvin / Kiesel is a top quality instrument. Made in the USA and one of the only big manufacturers where you can actually talk to the owner..Jeff will answer messages ( it may take some time cause he is busy) and he does it himself. I asked him about preamps one day on the live fb thing he does all the time which is pretty cool..

I'm thinking I need a Zeus 5er. ha ha...I gotta hear the pickups tho in person somehow..not sure about the radial HBs or the single coils they make..

Anyway back to Cliff..that is a beauty for sure, and it will serve you well for many years congrats on the NBD, I like the PJ config too...

Hi guys!

I'm taking it to The Ranch this weekend even though it's not really set up to my liking yet. I have to use a very light touch. Tune into the live feed starting at 8pm on the West Coast... Live Stream THE RANCH Saloon and maybe you'll catch me playing a few tunes on it. Thanks for enjoying this with me and sharing your thoughts.

Thank you for your indulgence,
