Have those on an older Kona Jake I rebuilt last summer in between some gigs. Installed a set on each of our 29'ers. My wife's Devinci Django, pre fenders. Dirty Fingers is our preferred LBS. My SC Tallboy LT. We still spend a good amount of road time but the trail networks here are too good to ignore. The 29'ers make a lot of it more accessible to is for sure. Nice bikes. I actually almost bought a Django but then I got a smokin' deal on a '17 Troy Alloy GX (27.5) on a closeout so I bought that. It is a monster trail bike, I am so happy with it. I came off a 26" 2011 Intense Tracer 2 which was great but the geometry on the Troy is perfectly dialed for our super technical trails. It rewards aggressive riding. :D

A rare pic of me, I'm usually the one taking the pics or just riding by myself. It was about -10C (14F) on this ride. We had a few freeze thaw cycles and the lads were out with the groomer so trail conditions were excellent. Eventually I will get a fatbike but for days like this studded 2.6s are awesome.

That's too cold. I stop biking at 30 degrees...having gotten stuck in a November squall on the shores of Lake Superior during my freshman year in college :D

Hey guys. I got into the cycling thing deep after needing a break from the music scene for many years and it has become a major mental and physical therapy thing for me. I got really into mountain biking years ago and have also done some road racing and cyclocross as well. I think my real racing days are over as of a couple years ago but still do some events to stay inspired.
For me there is nothing like being challenged on the mountain bike and I'm fortunate to live in the northeast and can ride 15 min to some challenging techy stuff with a fair amount of climbs. Besides the physical and mental health benefits (injuries aside), the greatest thing is just being in the woods and having to put all my focus on the task at hand which I'm convinced is therapeutic.

I ride in the cold but I'm not sure I can say that anymore after seeing that post of -15...

Ride on and keep the rubber side down my friends.

Yep , we had an ice storm last week , blue ice everywhere.
We always have a couple of days a year where studs are a must.
I use Schwalbe Ice Spikers on my normal MTB on these conditions , when there is snow (snowing right now , can't wait!) , I use the Fat bike with normal fat bike tires.

As for temperature , once you got the right tools (garments) , easy ......
Use the same as you would for cross-country skiing but with a Helmet/gogles/face mask combo.

Can't imagine that was much fun. I've experienced lake effect squalls in Georgian Bay. They're intense.

The day that pic was taken was cold but there wasn't much wind. Contrast with yesterday in which it was around freezing but we got a foot and a half of snow driven by 75MPH winds... I'd rather the -10 and calm. :D

You can tell it's cold in that pic because the vents in my shorts are closed. :D I found it cold when I started but once I got part way through the first steep 300' climb I was warm enough. I'm bred for cold though, I get overheated really easily once the temp gets above the mid-60s.

Yeah I've got a bunch of friends on fat bikes and even guys that have made their own homemade studded tires. I'm pretty well outfitted for winter gear and actually finally got a really good pair of specialized winter boots that I plan to use on tonight's night ride but frankly I don't think it's really necessary or cold enough but I might anyway. Funny you should mention the helmet and goggles because we had a stretch of really cold weather that are used my ski helmet and goggles for the first time and it was amazingly comfortable. Like you're in a cocoon

It was really cool watching the storm roll in, but then the ice and snow hit, and by the time I got back home, I literally stood my pants up in the corner because they were frozen solid.

I'm not sure if you know who Tinker Juarez is but he's an old school MTB badass and the Waldo of the east of Los Angeles cycling scene. If you ride in the area long enough, you're sure to run across him whether you're a roadie or a mountain biker. Usually it's the full Cannondale kit and dreadlocks that give him away but yesterday, I ran into him on his mountain bike. Neato!

Nice! Looks like it could be one of the trails here.

We had a pile of snow mid-last week and a thaw-freeze on Sunday and now quite cold. There was a massive flurry (yuk yuk) of snowshoeing and groomer activity on the 3 main trail systems before the thaw and now that they are set up the trails are apparently in awesome condition. Gotta try to get out tonight.
