How convenient...I was about to ask a cycling computer question, and I see I have come to the right place...

But my cycling history...the abridged version...
I have always loved bicycles...in the 80's it was BMX & Freestyle. In the early 90's I rode a hand-me-down Fuji that was too big for me. In the late 90's My girlfriend (now wife) and I bought mountain bikes - a pair of GT Rebound's - probably 1996? The last year of Chromoly Steel frames on these. Those bikes just got stolen in 2014...someone forgot to lock them up...:rollno::rollno:
Around 2013, though, we bought a pair of Giant Beach cruisers
Love these!

Then in 2015 I bought a Giant Anyroad for myself...

...and a Liv Invite for the wife. Shimano Tiagra group-set, 10x2

After months of research, and almost buying a Ridley Fenix, I chose these because they were of a new (then) breed of road-bike with off-road tires. I liked the idea of mixing a road-bike with a dirt-trail bike.
As of 2019 - just 4 years later, every single bike manufacturer makes a bike of this style.
I haven't had the chance to ride it much last year, I hope this year will be different...

Looks awesome! We've had a lot of freeze-thaw in the last few weeks so our trails are hard packed and very very fast. In fact, the snow is so hard that you don't even need to stay on the trail even on a non-fatbike. Studs are mandatory, though. :D It's ridiculously fast. I set half a dozen PRs the other night and that was the first time I was out in 2 weeks. So fast that I actually blew a few turns because I'm not used to entering them so fast. Good fun.

Trails in winter gets "equalized" :)

More so with hard packed snow !

You'll get your Rock & Roots back in summer

Yep, I will never even come close to my winter strava times in the summer. It's awesome because it's like you get two totally different trail systems for the price of one. It's funny because there are all kinds of riders who will ride this trail system in the winter but won't come near it in the summer because it's "too technical." There's a huge increase in traffic in the winter.

For those of you who cycle longer distances, what type of "computer" do you use?
I currently use a standard ant+ Speedo/odometer with cadence.
I've been thinking about getting a more sophisticated unit like a Garmin Edge or Wahoo Elemnt Bolt with GPS.

Are these any better than just using your iPhone and an App like Strava?
The only issue I have with using the iPhone/App is that Strava sucks my battery down in record time. Sure you can put the phone in Airplane Mode to conserve battery life, but can't receive any calls at that point.

It's a difference of spending $300 on a new gadget or $25 on an iPhone mount...

Since I'm not tracking my athletic performance (such as it is, i.e., nonexistent), a basic Cat Eye wireless has been fine for me to keep an eye on my speed and overall miles. I occasionally use my phone for a quick look at a map.

Frame aside, do you grease your leather saddle?

Yes, but not often, maybe every two to three years, depending on the saddle.
Older saddles that have been greased more often even less than that.
It also depends on the grease that is used.

Brooks proofide is pretty long lasting.
And if you use it on the top side, your saddle starts to stain light pants.
It may better to use saddle soap for the top.
