Basses Using Counterfeit Fender headstock decals

ah, so that's an american made fender neck on that bass? didn't know they parted them out like that. interesting.

Actually this one is not american made. The american was a lined fretless. (guessing Ebay, but have no idea where he got it) He told me it wasnt as good as he intended so he had this other neck he defretted. From the decal im sure it was a fender neck aswell. He didnt give any spesific detail about that.

Either way im happy. Dont care if he put fender on it as long as it sound and playes good. Thats my point of view atleast. Im sure many of you dont share my view on things.

well, i'm glad you got what you wanted. however, if this is not a fender instrument, it's considered counterfeitting to put a fender decal on a non-fender neck (or on any neck by anyone other than fender or their licenced business partners) and then to sell it that way as a new instrument, regardless of whether it's "understood" by the buyer or not. what's going to happen when you decide you want to sell that bass? how are you going to advertise it?

not something -i'd- be proud of, that's for sure.

judging by the background in that picture, it appears that there's a few blank necks, waiting for decals too. hopefully they are just waiting for the builder's own brand decals to put on there, and not just bogus counterfeits waiting to be made.

Not to be an ass or anything but that fretless has 21 'frets'.

Fender doesn't make necks with a 21 fret overhang - I know because I wanted one and had to buy a Warmoth neck.

And whilst I'm looking at it, doesn't the headstock shape look a bit different from a Fender? Look at the first 'E' string tuner. that corner of the headstock is too pointed and not rounded like a Fender.... Ehhh?

Anyway to the OP, I hope it plays and sounds like a bass of doom when you get it! After all, sound is what it's all about at the end of the day.

Peace.

Yeah, I noticed that too, how about what looks like a trussrod adjust at the headstock on the fretless neck?

Well, if its not a fender i dont mind as its like you say: as long as it plays good. Perhaps he chose to put fender on it as first asked for a fender neck and then he told me he found a better one and would rather use that. I dont know, and dont care if it plays well. If it doesnt ill deal with it then.

Sincerely, I do hope the bass is all you wish it to be and more, but now you're back tracking. First it was to be a CertainBass with a MIA Fender neck, that's what you wanted, and now it appears he misled you on that as well. He's also misrepresenting the instrument, again.

This is EXACTLY what I was talking about when I mentioned the questionable business practices of this individual. Who knows what provenance that neck has? It is not what you asked (and paid) for, and I personally would be pissed off all to hell.

Edit: I still see what you are saying and I have concidered all that can and can not be. The new neck could be a 20dollar piece of smith so that he can keep the areican too himself. I think i paied 200 for it. Cant remember.

As I said, I wish the best for you and your bass.

$200 will buy a Highway One neck, but probably not an American Standard. Ask me, I've been trying for months!

:)

Dang people, quick to jump to conclusions much?

He puts the Fender logo on the headstock if and only if you order it that way. He has his own logo that he'll apply if you ask for it, or he can leave it blank. He's not selling any of these as Fenders, he's just going by what people order. Doesn't make him a fraud.

I've dealt with him personally. He may not have come off as the most friendly guy on here, but in reality he's an honest, decent guy who just wants to put together good instruments. Maybe if a few more people would actually try it we could get past some of these judgements.

Lots of hate on here for a guy who was just upset by a bunch of people who hadn't played his instruments calling him out. Not that I advocate how he handled it, but he sure didn't come into the most friendly environment. Food for thought, at least.

Geez guys, since when did talkbass become the soapbox for the high and mighty sinless bass men who threatening 'contacting fender' over someone's project....seriously who gives that great of a $#!+ ?

Builder comes on TB and makes an arse of himself, and then people who otherwise wouldn't care, will suck up to a large corporation because they want to see him get slammed. People are just spiteful.

And for those who aren't doing it for that reason, I dunno. Which brings me back to your question, who gives that great of a ****.

i've actually reached out to the folks at fender, to get their official take on something like this.

so we'll see what they have to say about it.:bassist: i'm actually curious what the official stance on something like this is.

While you're at it, are you going to tell Fender about all the SX guys who use water transfers to put Fender decals on their basses? What about the blokes who have Fender decals on their Warmoth, Mighty Mite and USACG builds?

What a load of garbage.
