As has been said, Alembic is in the hunt. And for the record, aren't the Lesh And Casady basses both Guild Starfires that were modded by Alembic, as opposed to Alembic built?
Yes, they are.
I am not sure, but possibly even before Alembic became an actually company.
I remember way back in '79 or '80 when Ken Smith first started selling his basses they had a huge metal electronics plate just covered with a plethora of knobs & switches...might take a third dan Google-Fu master to rustle up a pic of one of those though...

Ha! Yeah, that's it! Saw one of those in the window of Manny's Music on 48th Street when I was a wee lad.
Holy ****! What in the world does one do with all those knobs? I'm a techie type person, but that is absurd. Hope at least that the knobs have some sort of locks on them because it'd be hell if you lost your knob settings. It might take a couple of weeks to figure it all out, get them back and make the bass usable again.
At any rate this looks like it "might be" the winner of this thread.
If you enlarge the thumbnail and read the descriptions, you can tell its a farce. These types of things emerge on Camera Forums as well. Buttons that summon Spock, order cocktails, etc., are common features to these gags. Ironically, one iPhone can replace all those comical things now.
I'll throw the Dingwall Z3 in the ring. It "only" has 5 knobs and three switches, but hidden within the knobs are a ton of tonal features.

*****psssst******...take a look at the functions associated with each of the knobs.......also consider the fact that Alembic posted this on their "Custom of the Month" page a couple years ago......in April......on the first.
Personally, I like control #43 best
As a basic knobophile, I've been trying to mod one of my SX basses to have all these functions. I've got most of them working except the last switch in the row. For some reason the groupie panty switch seems quite unreliable. I KNEW I should have built this bass back when I was younger!
