Double Bass bassing a cello

steve, i like your suggestion about tuning up to ADGC and letting go of the low E
i'm taking the cello as is (EADG) tomorrow night for the first time, just to see if i can be heard firstly and to check the low end particularly.
you're so right about how much better it is to be on the same level as the rest of the gang, thats going to be so good... i had an additional problem with the DB though and that was that it kept catching the ornaments and stuff hanging from the "very" low ceiling in the pub :hmm:

just to say that all went really well on monday night...cello-bello came through loud(enough) and clear(enough)in a mix that included 2 fiddles,2 accordions,2 mandolins, flute,guitar,banjo and 2 bodhrans....best part was getting to sit down round the table ...also,i think the space under the table acted as a resonator of sorts :-)
