I use 2 different basses. First off, I use my Lakland 55-01 for the faster, upbeat songs since it has wider neck and I can move around on it more. Secondly, I use a modded Tobias Toby with Bartolini quad coil pups for the slower, more powerful songs. Both are 5'ers and both are active. The Toby's got an 18v Bart preamp which really pushes the low end. I used to use my fretless 6'er for the slower worship songs but the Tobias handles them better because of the electronics.

I know some other people in other churches who use Fender jazzes and P basses and a couple of guys who use Ken Smiths.

I don't know about progressive, but we do a REALLY wide range of stuff. Pretty good players, we get the music in time for one run-through before the service - with very few clams! Usually,a full band, percussion, 30-45 piece orchestra and voices, so the possibilities for trainwrecks boggle the mind.

I have several nice basses and rotate between them - they are listed on my profile.

I play through a GK 2x10 combo for a bass monitor and send to the board for the mains and other monitors. The PA is a pretty serious setup - 64 channels, 24,000 watts.... sounds good and the main sound guys is one of the two best I've worked with over the years.

I use a Ibanez SR305 through a tuner-eq-then direct box to the board. The instrumentalists use the PSM 200 system and I use E2s and have had (surprisingly) pretty good luck with them.

When I don't want to use the IEM, I have a Ampeg B5R to a Carvin Cyclops.

Do bands at progressive Christian churches play 11 minute songs with bridges in 17/16?

i have

a friend of mine is a mathy kinda drummer, and he sits in occasionally. we comminucate very well, and one song he just feels the need to drop some crazy time changes (all very flowing and natural, thankfully), but little did we know that the guy leading the band would start rambling about the presence of God in the middle of the song, so we had to repeat the verse and chorus figures a bajillion times before he came back in and we hit the bridge. song clocked in at just over 11 minutes.

I use my Hamer USA (gotoh) into a Trace Elliot 12SMX + 410, but my Conklin GT-7 has seen plenty of playing time as well.

I cycle between my Alembic Epic 5, Pedulla Thunderbass NT5 and Ibanez BTB prestige 6er. I love all of them, and usually use Elixir strings. I always play through my LMII and my Carvin LS 1503 cab. I haven't found a setup yet that I like better! Well, at least not one I can carry inside in one trip...

Ive had several SR5's in the past but never had an opportunity to try one in a church band until now, (never played in a church band until now!! )my rotation for bass is up and I cant wait to try this thing out this Sunday!! It will be played through my old Trace Elliot combo:

Depending on the type of set, leader, and overall mood it's either my Maple Wal, an Epi Jack Casady, or a Gibson Grabber. I almost always run them through a Line 6 DL-4, a Bluebeard Fuzz, and a Dunlop 105 Q and the churches amp which is an SVT-CL and a 4x10.

Man, that's a nice rig for a church to own... Ours has a Fender M-80 combo

Hence I drag my own rig in every time I play (that and I biamp so I don't really have a choice).

When I was playing in churches I used my MIM Fender J w/ Bartolini single coils through the church's Workingman 15, but that was only for stage monitoring. The house signal was DI'd before the amp. I'll get a pic up later if I can.

Hey Dan, what church is that (if you don't mind me asking)? I have relatives in So. Cal (El Cajon, Santee, Guatay and Campo). I wouldn't mind coming to a Sunday morning service the next time we're out there.
