Most of my favorite bassist are on their 50th anniversary tour, retired or really "retired" like permanently so who is a bassist that's just coming soon your radar recently? They don't have to be new to the music world, but something that you're just now taking interest in. For me, and I don't know much about him, but Fernando Rosa has popped up in a couple of my feeds and I like his playing.

Byron Isaacs. His name first came up on my radar when he was backing the late great Levon Helm. He later became the touring bassist for The Lumineers – they'll be in my neck of the woods this autumn, so I'm planning to see a show.

Here he is from a few years ago backing Amy Helm – Levon's daughter – on one of her originals. I really like his playing and his tone here.

Great player, and that '61 CS stacker is giving me a bad case of GAS

MOST DEFINITELY! Fernando is a new fave of mine as well. Extra funky and grooves for miles. I'm diggin his whole 70s vibe with the Afro and the clothes too. In addition to prompting me to practice more and to check out so much music from my youth that I'd forgotten about!

His green vintage Jazz Bass has got my GAS in overdrive! I'm sure the $$$ it would take to get one is way out of my budget!

Makes me miss my Afro from back in the day which is LONG gone!

I've just recently started seeing him too. He's got a cool vibe. Great player!
