Huh. Never heard of him. But back then hardly anyone knew any band member's names.

Stephen Stills put BBQ sauce on his bass strings.
"I keep bass strings on my bass 2 years at a time. I play bass so hard that I really thump it so, when I get a new string, I buy some barbecue sauce and sit and rub it in. This is because it's got to get a little funky, rusty, and greasy in there so it will start to respond." SS
He confirmed it on twitter in the replies.
BBQ sauce was cheaper than KFC...
I don’t get all this excitement over Stills as a bass player. Besides the fact that it’s never been some great secret that it’s him on CSN, let alone two tracks on the Buffalo Springfield’s Last Time Around(where he does everything except drums), to me he is a perfect example of a guitarist who plays bass like a guitar(something bellyached about here often). Plus his sound is horrible, dull, muffled…like the amp is in a closet and a mic was placed outside the door.

I said nothing about his guitar playing, which was unique, but funny thing, someone else bashed that over on the other thread. I loved the Springfield(and Hollies, and Byrds), but CSN(Y) just kinda bored me. I found Manassas more interesting, and I’d rather hear Neil when he’s turned up to 11.Gee, it's a shame that all these shortcomings meant that he ended up unknown and unloved. Too bad he couldn't make it.....
Yeah, Stills' bass playing was not what made him famous and rich.I said nothing about his guitar playing, which was unique, but funny thing, someone else bashed that over on the other thread. Listening to this tune brings me back to a great time.
Jack Bruce, Peter Green, Rod Stewart and AynsleyDunbar 1967
Another one with Peter Green and John McVie 1969
The camera man met his requirement not showing the bass player
Must have hired a Rookie for this next one
Hope everyones enjoying the day
I agree. I posted this while I was listening to it. Didn't learn a single thing a didn't already know. And I think the narration was by a computer, not a human. A couple of times, "bass" was pronounced like the fish. And "cleak" for "clique"?While Carol Kaye no doubt is a genuine legend, and her story interesting and inspiring, that video could have been shortened by 3/4 were it not for the continuous repetitions, just stated slightly differently, and it stays at the absolute surface of things.
Horribly tedious narration writing.
