Bassists of the '60's Club.

Does anyone know where to find a transcription of Wilton Felder’s bass part on the studio Free Man in Paris? There are a ton of videos and transcriptions of Jaco live on the Shadows and Lights video but would love to see a transcription of the original. There is one video out there but the gentlemen’s hands are out-of-camera and there is no transcription (nor is the bass isolated enough). Thanks for your time.

A heads up for any Zombies fans who didn’t know…this documentary made the rounds of film festivals a couple years ago, but is just now going into wide release…

Chris White might not have gotten a lot of attention, and certainly wasn’t a flash player, but he was always good for some interesting lines. The irony for the band is that they had their biggest hit(ā€œTime Of The Seasonā€)only after they broke up. The Odyssey And Oracle album, which went on to be recognized as a masterpiece years later, wasn’t even going to be released in the U.S., but Al Kooper tirelessly campaigned for it.

Hey everyone .

Saw this one on my YouTube today… hadn’t seen it before but it’s pretty tasty.

Always happy to see Duck Dunn, Steve Cropper and Booker T playing.

I have to say Will Lee is phenomenal on the cowbell.

Who said more cowbell?

Drummer Anton Fig went on to tour with the three later. Not that Al Jackson, Jr. could ever be truly replaced.

FYI...This was my response to a request received today, after not renewing my subscription to TB.

Yes, Paul, it is true that I have financially supported your site for many years. This support continued in spite of repeated attempts from you and your team to control "club" formations and activities by arbitrarily eliminating or moving these threads to remote places. I have also been banned from posting for several weeks because I complained.

Look at the threads I have created and the number of responses of support from your other members. This is all gone now.

It should not be a surprise to you that I have had enough.

To all of those who corresponded with and supported me over the years, I offer at heart-felt THANK YOU and happy bassing...

Jim

Just came across the Byrds Fillmore 1970 8 Miles High Jam. Holy bass and drums, batman!

Never was a Byrds fan. Until now. Never knew about Skip Batten. I'm a fan now.

Just image being at any or all of these crazy Fillmore gigs.

And because this cannot be linked enough:

Back in '70, I prolly could've played that long. Now? No.

It's very cool to see that. Extended jams don't happen that often anymore. That being said, they're basically jamming on Em. I think the bass player could've been a little more adventurous. But, it's all about the groove and not showing off.... sometimes I forget that:)

This was the theme for the cricket coverage on the BBC. The choice was inspired by one of the tours by the West Indies where the crowd kept a rhythm going not dissimilar to the cowbell on Soul Limbo.
