Basslite SC10 sealed cab drivers

All right hear high performance woofers take awhile to break in. What a difference it makes.

@5StringPocket, a couple of questions:

1. Not knowing much about the Berg HGs, is that rear driver wired out of phase with the front?
2. What does this sound like with the tweeter rolled all the way off?

Super intrigued by this. So many cool drivers out there these days...

Here are a couple more shots of the Eminence SC10 (3+1). This back shot shows the rear mounted speaker. With the waffle grill it comes out 1" from the back surface so 1" rubber feet were installed at the corners so that the cabinet could lie on its back on a flat surface if needed.

Pocket handles are mounted midway up on each side but shoulder width strap handles were also installed on the right side for an easy lift into a trunk or hatchback wihout busting your knuckles.

Here is where it sits in my practice room with the amps on top. My favorite bass through this rig is my Sadowsky NYC PSB5 (Soap Bar instead of J). It just works.

There are a lot of good drivers out there but I did a lot of screening before deciding on the Basslite SC10-16. Their voicing along with the ability to do both sealed and ported well set them apart. The rear driver is wired in phase with the others. It’s subtle but the reflected sound from the rear driver seems to make the cab sound a bit fuller in my practice room. I also like the idea of some rear projection for the drummer. The tone is definitely darker with the tweeter off as you can tell from the RTA shots. You can boost treble on the amp but it doesn’t extend much past 4kHz which is what some players look for. I like options - tweeter or not, sealed or ported. Now that the drivers are breaking in this cab is sounding smoother and more full. I’m having fun with it seeing how it responds to eq changes with different styles of music.

As a side note: The HG410 is now being loaded with 10” NXT drivers which were previously available only in the NXT210, so they seem to work well in both sealed and ported cabs. If Mr. Bergantino was open to trying a set of pluggable ports on the back of an HG410, tuned to give a desirable ported response with the plugs out I’d have to jump in on one of those. A sealed/ported NXT410 would be very cool.

I have the Noble and Arkham Oracle in addition to a Forte HP but haven’t tried all these yet. Too many fun toys to play with. My next to do after getting the garage organized is learning how to use my Zoom H4N and Garage Band to make decent sounding demo recordings like @kringle77 has. Words and pictures only go so far.

Here is my first attempt at capturing the sound of that vertical 3 + 1 rear 410. The Eminence F151M-8 HF driver was recently replaced with an ASD1001B which is a bit smoother and sounds better with these woofers to my ear. I used my Dingwall SPJ5 -> Mesa WD800 -> SC10-16 Cab. A Zoom H4n was set 12" back from the cab center and used as the audio interface to Garageband v10.2 on my Macbook Pro. Mic level on the Zoom was set to 55% and there was no processing. I just exported the track from Garageband as an mp3. Recording is a very humbling process as you try and keep your levels controlled and watch your timing. More to follow...

Sorry for not paying closer attention to this thread. I’ve done other builds but still have this cab and really like the voicing, form factor, and amount of sound it puts out. I think a pair of lightweight sealed 2x10 cabs with these drivers would make a versatile stack.

The voicing on this 410 cab wasn't working for me the other day until I noticed the deep switch was ON. These SC10-16 drivers have a good bass bump in this cab without additional EQ and it was just too much. Turning off the deep switch with bass at noon provided the right low end balance. The bright switch (2-5kHz boost) along with low and high mids about 1:00 and a slight treble cut gave good mid presence and clarity without being harsh. The 2-ohm load setting on the back limits max output to 600 watts at 4-ohms. I still like the voicing of these drivers and would recommend them for a mid-powered DIY project but the right EQ really helps them to sound their best.
