Anybody know where to get tabs these days anyway?

Through the link I posted previously, you can get the archive from 2009 or, as I mentioned, you can download the whole site as it was just before 'shutting down' on TPB as a torrent.
I have a complete and usable copy of the site as it existed a few days before shutting down. However, I haven't bothered archiving and seeding it via torrent because others already have.
Search TPB and others for the archive, and once downloaded you should just be able to browse and use the site data locally.
Feel free to ask questions, publicly or privately, if you're not sure about how to do any of the above mentioned actions, or anything else.

I'm paranoid aboutusing torrents. I've done it twice, and each time I picked up a TON of viruses and caused major problems.
Please don't take this the wrong way, cause I don't mean it like that, but...
That has nothing to do with the torrent technology, and everything to do with the specific torrents you chose and the seeders that created them.
I have used the technology, literally, thousands of times, and never had a single virus or other problem.
The key is to read the comments, assuming there are some, make sure that the torrent has been verified by someone and that it was uploaded by someone with a good rep.
Like most things online, a little caution goes a long way.

Don't know how it is in the US.
But over here, if you have a live band playing covers, you need to have a license (granted, you need it if you play any music on the radio or whatnot too).

In the US the club owner is supposed to pay ASCAP a fee if he has cover bands perform and the club is larger than 3500 sq. Ft. The band isn't responsible for performing covers as long as the venue pays. BUT, you can't record a cover without the individual license.
At a bar or other entertainment venue (or anywhere with a jukebox) the venue is required to pay up an annual fee, I think to ASCAP, for use of the copyrighted material. If a venue has not paid theirs fees they can be fined if a coverband is playing nonoriginal material in their bar. I guess the same can apply to a band that is not playing in a designated venue.

It isn't the band, but the landlord that has to pay the license fee over here. So probably much the same.
Mysongbook was also threatened with legal action some years ago. It was the original Guitar Pro tab archive. The only site I know of now is Ultimate-Guitar. IIRC the admin of UG is from Russia so I don't think the RIAA or whomever have any power in shutting the site down.
That's absurd. If legal action were to be taken, it would be against the venue itself, not the performers. Venues are required by law to pay fees to performance rights organizations to allow the public performance of music (either through live musicians or amplified sound systems) owned by their members (composers and musicians.) So if that venue wasn't paying the fee to the PRO that covers the Stone Temple Pilots' material (ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC in the states), then they're liable. It has nothing to do with the band playing the music.
Either details of that story were omitted or the band in question is full of idiots.
