It depends on your needs. I'd say being the rack unit, 482i is definitely better. I can handle various signal levels so you can put it whereever you like. You can also use it to beef up the band mix not just bass. Also it should have much better headroom, and do not underestimate that.

That said, nothing can beat the simplcity and portability of a small pedal.

I see that you're using a GK rackmounted head, so I would recommend that you get the 482i and rack it up in the effects loop of your head. The Sonic Maximizer gives you the best results if you run it as late as possible in your signal chain. I run mine in my effects loop after my compressor. Plus, I don't know anyone who uses a Sonic Maximizer and doesn't leave it on all the time. I know that the only time I bypass mine is to see exactly what it's doing for me.

If you don't have a rack setup, the Sonic Stomp is fine. They have essentially the same guts as the 4-series rackmounted Sonic Maximizers.

Also, the 482i doesn't have any XLR inputs/outputs. You might be thinking of the 882i, which has balanced line-level XLR inputs and outputs.

Hey bassman - you seem to be quite knowledgeable about Sonic Maximizers (this thread and the OTHER thread). I just bought a 362 from a fellow TBer (I wanted his dbx 1066 and took the 362 just to make things simple for him and expensive for me LOL). From looking at the BBE site I would say the 362 is the budget rack version. Would that be a correct statement? Is the 482 a giant leap above the 362?

My original plan was to buy a compressor and then maybe a Sonic Stomp pedal but the above deal came along so that's where I am at now.

Thanks. :)

sorry.....not trying to hijack the thread.

I use 482i on fender jb 83, SD sjb 3. I think its limited use. It scoop your mid, but little too much for me.
Bbe will make the low fatter, the high more transparent but it will "remove" some essential mids. I can accept this fact for slap situation, But i lost some essential mif when i use finger mode. Second, i think its not true bypass. So when you plug through bbe, even off mode, it scooped your mid already. Other word, it will change your tone before you "start" it. Too bad. So i keep my xotic RC booster stand alone (again). This baby will not change your tone. Rc booster respect your bass!

I've been a fan of any and all BBE's for some time though I will say that there have been some bass heads that I feel didn't go well with the BBE, the first one that comes to mind was a GK 400RB that I owned.

Edit: Also, whatever BBE you intend to buy, definately buy used as most models can be had for as little as 25 bux!

Have you ever seen what the BBE stuff actually does?
The BBE "process" is a 2 band shelf EQ. Nothing more. That company should be put out of business for selling snake oil.
If you need a 2 band EQ, there are better solutions out there.
