The lemon song is a bit tough but there are easy songs on Zep II. Whole lot of love, Livin lovin maid, a few notes and good groove. The lemon song is really very basic also. I learned the whole album in my first day or two of playing bass. Are you playing by ear or trying to read sheet music?

I think it would have to be something not so fast and with lots of scales, How about any of these:

- Love me do (any of The Beatles actually)
- Mary had a little lamb SVR
- Crazy little thing called love ( or any if Queen)
- Basically most 60, 70 and 80 songs have very nice bass lines not too fast and with lots of scales (that make sense) and are very fun to play because you have to hit every note at the right time to make it sound good.

If you're making up your own very simple basic parts to chord charts, that might be possible. If you're playing anything even remotely like what JPJ did then I have to guess that either you're a prodigy, or a liar. :) There is no way that anyone I ever met met woud be able to play the lemon song and livin lovin made in the first week or two of their playing. Just rer-read and saw you said days. OK. I'm certain then that you're either a prodigy, or liar. Even if you were a guitarist first.

And I play by ear.

I am trying to get him to branch out and I think if he hears some songs where the bass is important he won't care so much how old the song is..
Most of the music he liked before this was from Rock Band...He is 9 so his experience is limited

I'd suggest some Rush, then. The solo section of Tom Sawyer is pretty hard in the fretting hand, especially so for smaller hands. One of the first songs I learned was Time Stand Still, which is pretty simple, save for some short fills, which may or may not be within his capabilities, but I think that song is a good exercise in a lot of things, especially the break in 7/4, which will help with counting and rhythm.
