To access the DRIVE effect section:

  1. Press the [<] + [>] buttons simultaneously to enter EDIT mode
  2. Press the [ B ] button (DRIVE)
  3. Should a number be displayed then a DRIVE effect is enabled else "--" is displayed and none are enabled
  4. Use the [<] and [>] keys to change the current DRIVE setting
  5. Exit EDIT mode by pressing the [TUNER] (EXIT) button

A question about replacing the watch batteries that retain the settings in memory.

I am guessing that when you remove them during replacement, the memory/setting are reset to the default values. Is there a way to prevent this?

Mine is working fine and retaining the settings, but I got it used recently and plan to use it for an upcoming gig and don't want to find out that the batteries are done when I plug it in on stage :)

I just popped in to ask exactly the same question and there was the answer!

Is the drive function still enabled when you select an existing preset i.e is it a global thing or does a factory preset override it?

Get a MIDI cable so that you can save your setup to your computer before you replace the battery. If you only have a few custom settings, you could write them down, but it's still a pain because you have to be sure to cycle through all the settings and options. Better to use the free software download and a $6.00 cable.

Thanks, Marcus! I will do that in the future, but I decided to replace the battery and just redo the settings - thought I might remember the setup procedure better if I had to go through it again. Kind of glad I did because as I was setting the gain to "max" per the setup tip sheet I noticed the gain boost/cut levels indicated and thought I would try just leaving it at Noon (no boost or cut) and I actually bet a much better/cleaner sound this way. I have 18V electronics and/or fairly hot passive pickups in most of my basses so I probably don't need the 6dB of boost by maxing out the default setting.

Also tweaked around with storing patches for the songs we will be doing at the upcoming gigs and I am really pleased with this little unit - getting a nice variety of decent quality tones.

Anyone know if there just happens to be a High Pass Filter setting anywhere in there that is anywhere from 25-35Hz? I know there is one in there for the bi-amp feature but thought there might be a global HPF.

Try going back into the initial setup on the tip sheet and use some other levels of the MASTER GAIN.

I was getting a fairly fuzzy driven-ish tone consistently as well and reset mine back to noon and am enjoying the clean tone I am getting now much better.

Your bass may be putting out a hot enough signal that you don't need the extra boost.

I tried the built in tuner after resetting mine and it still works quite well so I think the VAMP is getting enough signal.

Just dug my v-amp pro and fcb1010 out of the attic after 3 years.(old band having a reunion thing.) Replaced the battery still worked but thought its best. Ordered a pc usb midi adapter. Now to get programing. Just spent the last few nights reading through the 2 threads so much help thanks guys. Had forgot how to use the thing. It still sounds amazing through a 300w p.a. in stereo in the dining room :-). The fcb1010 is very easy to use if you do the factory setting for the bass vamp I highly recommend it. I paid £30 for the vamp and £50 for the fcb1010. It used to run through an old 2 channel power amp to a 1x15 and a 2x10+horn (old peavey cabs)in bi amp mode. Need a new power amp and cabs now and will be flying again.

My usb to midi unit arrived today. Have tried on 3 different computers and it is found, driver installed and when open the software for vamp get a light that flashes as it scans it has a power light on as well but nothing flashing on the midi in side for receiving a midi signal.The vamp software cant find my vamp. Same on all 3 comps and as a last resort connected it to the comp then its midi in to my fcb1010 midi out much expression pedal moving later think the usb unit is faulty as no light when moving pedals which should generate a midi signal. am sure vamp midi is not in bypass enter edit press patch a button then midi chan displayed and make sure tap light is off.(did try with it on as well.)just wondering if I am missing anything silly or simple. Any help would be happily received.

There is a bunch of good MIDI info scattered in these threads, but I will take a guess that you have the IN and OUT sides of the MIDI cable accidentally reversed.

Hi if I midi my vamp pro to my fcb1010 with in and out cables should changing presets on the vamp alter the bank or patch pedal light on the fcb1010 as if i'd pressed them because it don't if it should then my vamp midi out is u/s :-( just wondering before spend £30 on a good midi interface
