I was just about to post with the same problem and saw your post. I get a kind of low level "gurgling" as a note is dying away. It does sound like a sub-octave is cutting in and out. I've decrapped the V-Amp and this happens on most patches even with the effects level turned down to zero.

I had this on mine. I did a global reset (you'll lose your pre-sets so note the settings of any important ones) and it fixed it.

And....mid song last night (practice...whew!) it just went silent.
All the lights were still on, but no output.
Am I right in thinking this could just be a battery issue?
CR2032? Will that bring back the sound? No output from the headphone jack either (with headphones....duh!).
Rather upset because I had a magical sound dialed in, but I just bet that the memory of that has gone.

Also, tried a little bit of synth on a song last night - just a smidge - and it seemed to fit in wonderfully. I knew I'd find somewhere to use it.

Install a new CR2032 and then perform a system reset following the trauma

BTW - Could this issue have anything to do with your $69 purchase price? Was the V-AMP new, used, hot, or a slight "fever" :-)

When you're under the hood to replace the battery, take notice of the EPROM version that is installed (usually printed on top of the chip, latest is v1.09) This will also clue you in on the age of the unit, as well as perhaps being a source of concern if much less than v1.09.

Hi Charlie,

just wanted to say thanks for the help, I picked up this thread while waiting for a lift to go get another 8-string. I've used a V-amp pro with a Crest 6100 (headroooooom) and Hartke 4x10 and 1x15's for a couple of years. Really love the tuner tip IMHO the worst part of the unit. I actually bought a spare to clone and to get me through gigs in case of failure, it's still in the cupboard :-). The patch change is a pain in the rear, but I'll try the 'same model, different fx' tip. I really like the SVT and then add octave for guitarist widdle moments, with the 8 it gives a full sound which works really well in a three piece.


Just wanted to say thanks from the UK :-)

Does anyone here plays with overdriven sound? I'm asking because most of the time I like a little dirt on my sound but I can't seem to get that from any of the simulations, not even the SVTs, is it my problem or isn't the unit capable of getting that dirt? I don't wanna use the drive simulations because they are just awful IMO.

A little scary moment of no sound, then a global reset and all is back to normal. The eprom looks like it has some kind of silicone blobs on it. Either to keep it in place, or for some 'warranty' reasons... The blobs obscure the legend, but I think it says 1.08...might be 1.09. If I have further problems I'll definitely try a new one just in case.

I've plugged into the software, and a had a right old explore. There's some goodness in the little box.

The 'old time bass' (or whatever it's called..B15) is wonderful, and I was able to coax a good Motown sound out of it. [note to self: Learn 'Bernadette':hiding:]

kurotenshi: When you go into the software, there are a bunch of separate 'dirt pedals' in there. They add all the dirt you need and then some. The Big Muff and ProCo Rat emulations are spot on.

Not totally convinced on the delays yet, but I really haven't dug that deep. I also have a rack unit that I can run via MIDI to add a delay from there when I need it. Too cool.

BTW, CharlieC, the 'Quick Guide' is awesome.

Really recommend getting the software loaded and using that to explore the capabilities of the pre-amp. So much easier, and makes the manual seem...well....like the manual. :spit:

Those are usually hot glue - stiff, but it pops off if pushed carefully with a dental pick or a small screwdriver. Just don't slip or scratch the circuit board traces by pushing too hard. It's also possible to use a needle-nosed pliers to "pinch" pieces of glue until it crumbles.

If it's silicone, it will feel rubbery. Epoxy is much tougher. But since Behringer sells the chips to upgrade these boards, I don't think they would use either one. Pretty sure you have hot glue, just like I did.

I upgraded the V-Amp Bass to 1.09, and the FCB1010 to the UnO chip - two chips, shipped, cost me $15 each from a private party with an EPROM burner. There are several on the web, with varying prices. The one I used has a website, and offers many different chips -- for Behringer and others -- and was fast and easy.

If you want to know the version number, depending on which software you use it will generally be displayed after connection is made.

If you've got the 1.09 version, no worries about the hot glue. Otherwise, I can vouch for the relative ease of getting the glue off. Some of it had even come loose. But the whole process of carefully removing glue and upgrading two chips took me less than 30 minutes (including opening and reclosing each device -- the FCB1010 has 16 screws that must be removed and reinstalled!).

Good to know that because none of the dirt pedals work for me so I guess I'll never spend money on a muff lol. The Rat works for really hard distortion but not soft dirt. The problem is you can't blend the clean and distorted signals, you can split them by freq. but then the distortion would only be on the low freqs and the ideal would be exactly the opposite.

CharlieC --- Have been following this thread for awhile, and I now have the same setup as you... V Amp Pro teamed up with Crown XLS 1000. I use different cabs though. I got my Behringer for $160.00 on ebay from a company called Soundbargain. They had best offer deal and I offered $160.00 (free ship) and they accepted. Got the Behringer today and am headed home to put it through some paces. I will report later on how it sounds.

Wanted to thank you for all the work on this thread -- pretty amazing and informative stuff --, and for getting me jacked up to try something new.

Can I please be a member of the squad?

G'day kurotenshi,

It sounds to me when I use the freq. split on the distortion 'pedals' in the BVAP that it is the frequencies above the split point that get the distortion, which is how you would hope it would work. I could be wrong about this of course!
