Behringer just bought Midas and Klark Teknik

It was a pleasure to work with Klark DN360's, and Midas pro 5's and pro 40's a few times. They worked exactly the same way in 1988 as they do today. Very high end, no nonsense, high quality gear. Not quite got the same feeling from Behringer.

What's next ?, is Samson gonna buy Meyer and EAW.

I only know Klark Teknik from their DIs. The one venue used to take the DI out from my amp and run it into the Klark Teknik. However, this time it was a different soundman and they used a Radial JDI.

Now that Behringer owns Midas , they can copy their circuit as much as they like.
When will we see a cheap XL8 version by Behringer?

Both brands are bigger in Europe than they are in US. In fact, I don't think Midas exports to US at all. Do correct me if I am wrong though.

I don't know where you guys get your information. I have a Midas Venice 240 mixer, and I've even seen Midas at GC. Also at Sam Ash. I bought mine from 8th Street Music. Their large consoles are used by many large venues and touring companies. The preamps in their consoles are superb.

well, if the 'venice' is any indication of where midas is heading... i can't think of a console i hate more than that POS...

their large format analog stuff is great, and the KT graphic EQ's are standard... it will probably just bring us more low end offerings from Midas and Klark Technic... and maybe there will be a few high end Behringer things... we will see.

Rather than just spewing bile and vitriol, why not enlighten us to your specific issues with the Venice? Mine has performed flawlessly, and the sound is several notches above Mackie and other comparable brands. While layout is an issue of personal preference, I like it a lot, and I like the feature set.

If you read the article, it says they're going to keep the brands separate. However, now that Uli owns the technology, I think we'll see some cheaper versions of Midas' more popular stuff under the Behringer brand.

+1...depressing ain't it? Never heard of it so it must be c#$p....WOW...I have owned 2 Venices over the years myself and I would love to hear what the poster prefers that is better in the same price/performance point....Granted the Venice is NOT an XL4 but what is?

For the record I have been using Midas and KT for more than 20 years and LOVE the stuff. Midas is at the top of most production riders in the pro touring market if the first choice digital board like the Venue or the Digi is unavailable. As far as I am concerned they have been THE finest analog live sound boards in existence for MANY years. Both Midas and KT are readily available in the US from multiple sources and ANY rental house that serves the broader industry should have them available to rent out. There is no substitute for knowledge folks, maybe a little research would be in order before you post here about things that you know so little about as a statement of fact...? Just my $.02...

as i had stated earlier, the two biggest problems with this desk are the lack of phase reverse and a main mix buss which will load early (running a general mix with correct gain stage, the main buss can easily be overloaded ime).
at the price point for the venice, i think a better buy is the soundcraft
gb4 or a little more for the gb8. comparable eq, 8 aux as opposed to 6, phase reverse, and a few extra features like an additional mono buss and record out with limiter (gb8 has 8 sub groups as opposed to 4). you don't get those midas pres, but the soundcraft is no slouch and these desks have proven to be reliable in a few installs i've done as well as with some local production companies i've worked for:

Yeah, I caught that after I posted! But I think, like you're suggesting, we'll see some crossover. It's very rare for a company to acquire another brand and leave everything untouched.

Well, U.S. Music has added a few products to the Eden line, but Eden always evolved on their own, and the classics are still with us. Ditto FMIC and SWR.
