Bergantino B/Amp at NAMM

I played this at NAMM last weekend for the first time. Holy cow! I was actually going to the booth to check out the new HDN cabs but really was blown away by the B|Amp. Now I am jonesing for one! Anybody know what is the best setting to use if you are using an HD210 and HD112 together. I see there are profiles for dual HD210 and dual HD112. But not the two together. I should have asked at the show and totally forgot.

Aside from EQ profiles, any ideas as to what might be downloadable in the future?

Imagine if, variable compression (including frequency dependent), expansion, distortion, and other effects were all possibilities.
This idea of downloads really adds to the idea of extended value.
When you get right down to it, we've really only been comparing amps on tone, power, price, and portability.

I doubt you're going to see effects in this amp. I have heard rumors of a bluetooth footswitch for it.

Hi Tom,
after quite some waiting time the B/Amp is now also available in Germany and I just got one to check out and compare it with my current MarkBass 800Tube and Walter Woods Blue Light on two HD112. I must say that I was very astounded when I heard the upper ranges from the bass - when I sometimes read clean I think it might be very brittle and thin in the highs / upper range - but the B/Amp is fuller than both the MarkBass and the Walter Woods. After some time constantly switching back and forth amps and basses to get a feel for it the other two amps are starting to sound unrealistic because they have some pushes high frequencies that makes the bass sound more open at first, but also cover some of the upper mid structure where the character might be.
When I checked the EQ to compensate some highs with the B/amp it is really outstanding that you can dial in the highs-frequencies that you like. Wonderful. I rarely use the EQ at the MarkBass because I don´t like the frequency-points there. Normally I use only the bass EQ with the MarkBass when it is a bit too much for the room. Great benefit also here with the B/Amp the feedback controller for some specific frequencies.... Is it also your impression that the B/Amp is somehow darker sounding out of the box than maybe other amps?

That is quite the review. I keep trying to talk myself out of buying one later this year. I have a ToneHammer 500 and an older Rumble 150 v2 with a Berg NV115, a Berg CN112 and soon to be shipped Barefaced One 10. But it seems to me with the third cab I will need to add the BAmp so the whole family is complete.

No, I would not say that it is darker than most other amps. It is more full than some, for sure, but not darker. Do you have any of the profiles turned on?

BTW, thumbs up to the ToneHammer - Barefaced One10 combination. They sound great together.

Hey TB,

Are there any sound clips of the B Amp? I have searched high and low but no luck.

I am thinking of moving on from my 2 current heads (Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 and Genz Benz Shuttlemax 9.2) to get something smooth and hifi. Cabs are Bergantino CN410 or CN112 depending on need.

I tried the GK MB Fusion 800 (briefly) and liked the A channel. No use for the distortion channel.

From what I have read this B Amp is what I am looking for but I want to hear it and know for sure.

I just ordered a GK MB Fusion 800. I agree B channel for distortion is not that useful, although setting it for just a tiny bit of overdrive can be good occasionally. I think it is actually more practical to use as a "boost" footswitch to engage, for example, when soloing, or as a "cut" for dropping down to quiet volume if you're normally going full balls. That said, I bought it for the tone and power, not the B channel. I like my older heavy tube-in-the-pre amps, (SVT 4, Eden WT800) and I like my small class D solid state amps (TH 350 and GK MB200). The MB Fusion 800 should fit neatly in that range.

B Amp is new to me though. Wish there were one to play around here.

Has anyone done a general comparison of the Tecamp Puma 900 to the B/Amp? I "like" my Puma but I have to admit that the finest amplification system I've ever played through was a Bergantino IP212.

If the B/Amp + HDN212 combo is close to the power and clarity of the IP212...this may be a game changer.

Hi Neil,

I don´t think that some audio clips that you would listen to through your computer or hifi station would help by your decision. Unless there are demos with the exact same recording situation like strings-bass-mikro/DI-room also from amps that you know. There are so many things that could be tweaked in the EQ section or elsewhere... I think you will not now unless you tried it by yourself. In this thread there is a link to a DI recording... but you don´t know so many components... the player, strings, bass, EQ, and so on.

The best way to listen to a B/Amp is to play it in person.. One of the best ways to describe it for me is, a few years ago I bought a Nissan Pathfinder which had a Bose sound system in it.. It didn't take me long to realize all of the little things I was missing in tunes that I had been listening to and playing for years, that I never heard before... It brings out more detail in the sense you have a flat even response and dependent on your cab of choice or speaker configuration, what you hear overall... And what I mean by that is what playing thru 10's, 12's, 15's etc brings to the table..

I really dig my Puma 900, and it's a great comparison to the B|Amp. I don't have any detailed A/B notes (yet), but when I briefly compared them, the thing that continues to stand out with regard to the Puma is its smoothness. Now, I have also noted the B|Amp as being smooth compared to some other amps, but the Puma is the "smoothness champ." The B|Amp, though, may be the "smoothness with clarity, fullness and power champ." It seems to have a bit more clarity of attack, and it feels more full from top to bottom. The Puma 900 has always struck me as "plenty loud" and it might even spec out a bit higher than the B|Amp, but the Berg has a feeling of power, even at lower volume levels, that I really like. This is a characteristic I also noticed with the larger IP cabs.
