Bergantino B/Amp at NAMM

A story about long hair.
I had long hair most of my life but not now. It was really funny, back about a gazillion years ago in electrical engineering school there were two different 4.0 guys who had really long hair, one a couple of years ahead of me and one in my class. We had this professor who, because of the 4.0 guys, thought that all long-haired guys were brilliant. So I got preferred treatment and even was allowed to play with all the new laser equipment in the prof's lab. The other long haired guy and I were some of the first in the world to use said laser equipment to take the inverse fourier transform of optical spatial frequencies (fourier transform then filters to enhance low spatial frequencies then inverse fourier transform). The result was an old coin from an archaeological dig was able to be read whereas all tries before had resulted in an unreadable surface. Moral of story, THINKING that growing long hair was what brilliant guys do led to world discoveries; so grow your hair, it could lead to bass playing brilliance.

I so wish that were true, I would grow my hair down to my heels, and by the way, that's some technical stull you were playing with huh ??

My new band's first gig is April 8th so I am hoping all that happens before then and I will buy a pair of the HG310s. I do have a 212 and a 112 and a 115 to tide me over until then and also for gigs where I will like a 212 or a very light gig where I can use a 112.

Learning the bands originals is taking time although I can fake my way through many of them. Then they have to learn my originals. We are trying to be 20% cover 80% originals. The drummer is a booking agent who books bands throughout the state. He also owns a production/sound company and is re-building his recording studio that was damaged by a tree falling in and wrecking everything last year, so the gigs are there if we can get tight enough - along with all the lights and sound system, plus I have sound equipment. Two of us old guys and 2 middle age guys and one in his 30's. I don't think any of us are a the stage of our life where we want it to get out of control and are only interested in performing a couple of times a month, although that could change as I really don't mind performing every weekend. Not interested in touring.

LOL! I had long hair throughout law school, and for many years as a practicing attorney. I finally cut it when I got back to waterskiing a lot, and I didn't like my head smelling like a dead fish. Still thinking about growing it back (and fortunately, able to do so). :thumbsup:

The Blue Soul is certainly an excellent head, and it is very well balanced and transparent. The B|Amp is a bit more full sounding and a bit more smooth, and equally as balanced/transparent, if not somewhat more so. For whatever reason, the B|Amp "feels" a bit more like a really good class-AB amp, as well.

Thanks for the reply and insight.. I was going to send my Blue Soul in for an update and was looking at this amp in the interim, or permanent accompaniment. I like my Blue Soul, but wanted a little warmer tone.

The B|Amp is more full/smooth, but not necessarily "warmer" (depending on how you define "warm") out of the gate. However, you have the ability to dial in varying amounts of overdrive, fuzz or distortion, and in smaller doses, this can definitely "warm" things up. Plus, you have a super flexible EQ.

Not that Tom needs my verification, but right out of the box, flat, it sounds like your bass.

Now, when I play classic rock type music, I do turn on the Overdrive setting a bit, which gives it a tube type sound, and I boost the low mid just a bit, and to me it has a great traditional sound. In most other calls, I play it pretty close to flat, it sounds great that way.

K, I'm debating over pulling the trigger on one. Currently I have a Darkglass amp that I really like...mainly playing it through my NV412, 115 and new NV212T. It can sound a bit "cold" through the 212 and 115 (the 412 makes everything sound good).

I rarely use/need the all out assault of distortion that the DG amp can provide. My question is can the B Amp do a nice soft clip purr of a slightly pushed tube amp? That's what gets me going.
