One really cool thing about an HPF that a lot of players don't realize is how much more effective your bass knob (and corresponding frequency) becomes. Since most bass controls are shelf style, by running the HPF up to, for this example we'll say 60 hz. Let's say your bass center frequency is 65 hz, it really let's you hear and feel 65 rather than it towing along a lot of other frequencies you "may" not want due to the shelf and no HPF set up that "high".
