Not sure I understand this. You say it stops at .2khz (that's actually 200hz), which is lower than the 700 or 800 hz you're asking for. The fact is the HMids go from 400hz to 2.0khz. I could very easily make that 200hz - 2khz or 100hz to 3khz, or... in seconds. As for the multi-band compressor, there's already a very nice parallel, VRC compressor in the B|AMP, and not being a bass player myself, I would probably opt for having it make me bacon and eggs for breakfast every morning before I design a multi-band compressor for it...Just saying!;-}

On the new distortion circuit (labeled "Dist"), I specifically chose my silver faced Walkabout.....I think you'll find that with Dist toggled on, with milder settings (ex. Drive at 1-5 and volume at 12-15) you can set your blend (auxiliary knob) for about 9 to 12 o'clock and should get a very nice clipped tone.

Our website has the latest less this most recent update with the VLPF and changing Dist 2 to Fuzz, but the change from Dist to Fuzz doesn't change how to engage and adjust it. I hope to have the VLPF update after the first of the year but it should be very straight forward.

Liking the new firmware! Haven't used it thru a cab yet, but thru headphones the vlpf sounds great, as does the distortion.

I finally had a chance to play out yesterday with the new 5.0/5.0B firmware. The variable low pass filter is an extremely useful tool for me! It enables some boost in the lower treble (3-4k) for good presence and edge, without adding all the usual finger squeaks and other extraneous high frequency noise. The effect is similar to decreasing the tweeter level on my HDN210 cabinets, but the added value in the VLPF is that I also get that high-end rolloff in my IEMs and the DI signal going to front of house. I had it set at 5k, which seemed about perfect for my needs (j-bass, rock music). Very easy to get a nice bright tone without all the unwanted noise and clatter.

The new Dist circuit is also outstanding. I think it's the most organic and natural of all the B-Amp Dist flavors I've sampled. I had been using a one-off that Jim provided for me because I wanted distortion throughout the entire spectrum, but I like this one better. It sounds very natural, and adds a nice grind/growl depending where it's set. I'm using very low drive settings (3) with the blend knob around 10:00-12:00, which seems a perfect "always on" tone for rock.

Very nice updates to the amp that keeps on giving! Thanks Jim!

Happy to hear you're liking the new effects. I will be sending out another one soon (5.10(B) )which just fine tunes the fuzz effect. Adjust the output gain of the fuzz to be more in line with the O/D and Distortion at a given setting, as well as some other filtering to keep it "fuzzy" but not too "buzzy"! ;-}

Hi Jim, my B|Amp manual p.9 says VHPF "Factory default is 40Hz." Does this mean it is always on even if programmed "Off", and programming just adjusts Hz?

To answer your question "Off" is essentially 30 hz. There's nothing of any use below 30 and I would recommend you try upwards of 55 or even 60hz. You'll be surprised how little bass you'll miss up there and how much more detailed it sounds!

Think of it as a variable low cut filter. Everything below the displayed frequency is rolled off.

Or feel them!;-). The best thing to do is just play with it and listened to what it does. Start at 40 and turn it up while you're playing on your lower strings. Your ears will "explain" to you how it effects your sound.
