I"ll have a scotch in all your honor Saturday. Have fun. I'll try to make it next time.

I was looking forward to accidentally setting my Heart Rock on Mike's Focus and crushing it into a little pile of aluminum, plastic, and wire:D

LMAO!!!!!!!!
Now THATS funny!!:D

Quote of the week right there!!

I can assure you that there's no way to get a Focus with an HT112 to sound remotely close to an IP112. You'll have to hear the new program of the DSP. It's funny, everyone that plays the IP112 next to the IP212 and the IP310 says that they prefer the IP112. It just sounds so enormous for it's size. At this point I couldn't justify anything more than the IP112 with the occasional extension cab (I don't play rock...).

I dunno Andy, we did it with the old DSP though.
We'll see with the new DSP.
I'm sure it will sound different/better/worse (read: subjective) but I'm not one to deny it if it does kill.

I might try that tomorrow. Take my Focus SA and HT 112 and try it next to a IP112. I played the 112 next to the IP310 and IP212 and liked the others better, but like I said the 112 is much more practical.

Of coarse, one 12" speaker in a small box next to a 310 or 212 with 1,000 watts....there's going to be a difference. The thing is, considering the ease of the IP112, even with an EX112, they just can't be beat. The low end is enormous on these little cabs. The smaller boxes also make them cut live. The DSP has made the low end uncanny on them now as well. I've just never been so impressed with a product before.

Well it was a IP112 and an EX112. Of course I'm talking tone, and what the speaker gives me and not volume and low end. One manages to get some sophistication after playing over 20 years. I'm just want to figure out if the IP112 plus a HT or EX is that much better than my Focus SA>>HT112>>EX112. Bringing my cabs into the store will be one way to find out.

Not trying to talk down to you in any way man. Sorry if it came across that way. Not a big fan of the internet for that reason.

Definately haul your rig over to a music shop to compare.

Hahah...it was hard to tell. I kind of suck at the internet when it comes to that sort of thing. I think people would like to know how the IP112 compares to a class D poweramp and an HT112 since there is a non-IP version of the IP112 unlike the 310 and 212. Of the top of my head, I noticed a little more lowend than I usually get with my Focus SA and my berg 12s. But that wasn't head to head.

So a Focus and HT112 (both used could be a great deal)could be the poor mans IP112!?!?!

Well, you'd be within a couple hundred bucks of an IP112, so I am not sure about the "poor man's" part. ;)

I was really impressed with the Focus both at my GTG and at the GTG in Columbus. I look forward to spending some more time with an AI Focus, and I definitely look forward to hearing it compared to the reprogrammed IP112. :)

I'm sure I'll take flack for this, but $1800 for a single cab? I understand that it's touchy to talk about how people spend their own money, but that figure is really touching a nerve. For those of you earning your living playing bass live I can maybe understand, maybe...

Sorry, had to comment.

The price tag is steep, for sure, but you have to remember that you also get an amazing 1,000 W power amp in the bargain -- with an active bass, you can just plug the bass right into it -- no need for a separate amp. And for people who have to move their rig a lot, there's no better sound from such a small box than the IP112. If you look at the price tag of a great 112 plus a terrific head, it's not that much more $$$.

I need to back Mike up and point out that at the time of my first GTG, the IP112 (as programmed) and the Focus/HT112 sounded REALLY similar. We also had yet another HT112 being driven by the Walter Woods Ultra, which to be honest, sounded more "exciting" than the other two, and I think was perhaps the overall favorite. BUT, this was also with plugging the bass right into the back of the IP112, too. As good as this sounds, I still prefer a good clean preamp, like the Berg line driver, Stewart UDP-1a, Avalon U5, or Summit TD-100.

But again, Mike's Focus into an HT112 sounded really, really good!

Tom.
