tombowlus said:I need to back Mike up and point out that at the time of my first GTG, the IP112 (as programmed) and the Focus/HT112 sounded REALLY similar. We also had yet another HT112 being driven by the Walter Woods Ultra, which to be honest, sounded more "exciting" than the other two, and I think was perhaps the overall favorite. BUT, this was also with plugging the bass right into the back of the IP112, too. As good as this sounds, I still prefer a good clean preamp, like the Berg line driver, Stewart UDP-1a, Avalon U5, or Summit TD-100.
But again, Mike's Focus into an HT112 sounded really, really good!
Tom.
I personally don't find that the Berg IP's really open up, even with a powerful onboard pre, unless they have some sort of line driver or preamp in front of them. My favorites so far have been the Berg line driver and the SIB Fatdrive for a warmer, tubier sound.
I was very impressed by the IP's in general. However that IP112 with extension cab is, I believe, over 80 pounds! Given that, the IP310 makes much more sense, or a more traditional, large, lightweight cab with a good, lightweight power head.
