I listened to a real player ring it out today. I had just completed a Flex Core install in his Pedulla Thunderbass. This cab sounds really good. As Jim describes it, it's "thick and meaty." It has that vintage vibe, but also has a real nice top end that a lot of 115s don't have. I wasn't going to buy one, but if I can install enough preamps, I may get enough money to take one home some day.
BTW, that Pedulla sounds outrageous. I don't think a tone exists that he can't get out of that thing.
+1 That is the gist of the 'new vintage' moniker. A sealed 15 cab, but with the added clarity and extension of a paper cone mid driver. There are quite a few woofer/mid designed cabs out there, and most don't speak to me at all, in part due to the simplistic crossovers used. Jim REALLY knows his crossovers, and the top end of his cabs is always beautifully integrated and voiced!
I have no interest in this cab myself, since the CN212 is so warm and punchy and organic up top. I don't need to go any 'farther' than that with my more vintage instruments. However, for those with tube amps, or those who really want a more 'updated vintage vibe' this cab should kill (from my experience with the other NV's!
