Bergantino NV158? ???

FWIW and IMO.

This weekend I went to Gelb Music in Redwood City and got to spend a pretty quiet, uninterrupted hour or so try out a few Berg cabs with my Walkabout (my thanks to Ed at Gelb).
My impressions:

NV115 - very vintage sounding to my ear (maybe too much actually - if that's possible), has a woody/throaty mid response, a very big low end, and very organic top - very much like what I remember my old D140's kind of sounding like. It does respond like a sealed cab - somewhat tighter/quicker than a ported cab, and it does sound a bit different right in front vs 10-15 ft away. The mid driver has no pad (that I could see), so it sounds like it sounds. It's an interested form factor. Seemed kind of big for a single cab, particularly standing right next to the Berg 2x12 cabs, and if you stack them vertically, it will get pretty tall.

CN212 - well into that same new/vintage tone range. Big down low, nice even low mids/mid voicing (not too barky or clanky) and the pad adjustable high end is very "gentle" not sizzly/harsh or "tweety". Key thing to my ear was the extremely well balanced sound of this cab, particularly with the Walkabout, and boy, did it get loud. This is the cab I chose to buy.

AE212 - definitely related to the CN cabs tonally, only a bit more "polite" to my ear and ~10lbs heavier.

I already have 2 perfectly good small, single cab rigs (Walkabout 12 and Ampeg PF500/115HE), so I was seeking a bit bigger single cab solution. If I did not already have the 2 single cab rigs, I would have been leaning harder in the direction of the sealed NV115.

again, just my 2 centavos and IMO.

I wonder how the 115 would pair with an nv610..using an Aguilar 751 to power them both..The 610 runs at 4 ohms.

Any thoughts???
Cheers.

That combo should sound excellent, esp w two NV115's.

How about the NV610 with an 18...

I re-equalize this 610+18 setup with pink noise to minimize cab frequency interactions and try to flatten response as best I can. Using the amp EQ.

Seems like the optimum way to stack a pair would be vertically with each cab on its side, midranges up -- keeps the mid drivers closer together. If you're in a really boomy room and don't have something like a Gramma pad, you might want to have the cabs in vertical positions.

kind of my thought too. 2 stacked vertically would be pretty tall and narrow 48"w 18.5"h. With an amp of any size, it would be 55" high or so. Or, if you stacked 2 horizontally (which is what I think you meant to say), to keep the mid drivers close for dispersion reasons, then it would be kind of a low and wide cab stack.

Of course, anyone who plans to regularly use 2 of these puppies will probably already be a "big rig" player, so it probably will not matter to them at all. And, I'm sure it would sound great in any event.

I got a chance to try my Walkabout through an NV115 at Bass Club Chicago for about 10 minutes today. Wow, that was a delicious combo! I would love to A/B it with my NV610. I'm sure the 15/6 can't match it for sheer volume (and probably not for midrange punch, either), but it sounded great.

Tried one today at BASS SAN DIEGO YOUR FRIENDLY BASS SUPER STORE! ..... (How's that guys? )

Odds are Munji will own one, in the next month. he just doesn't know it yet.

Based on a very recent alignment of celestial bodies, I may know more than you think. Since Jim isn't done with my CN322 yet, I may have cause to take the fall.

I was at BASS SAN DIEGO today comparing the CN212. HD212 and NV115.

The HD212 sounded smoother and is my favorite 212.
The CN212 is more raucous and bold and I can see this working for a lot of people.

Both of these cabs had significantly more output than the NV115.

The NV115 won hands down for extended depth and girth down low. It's no substitute for a 2/15 cabinet output wise, and cannot keep up with a CN212, or a 410.

BUT it's probably the most smooth balanced coherent of the bunch. Stacking two NV115's vertically should give any 410 a serious run for it's money.

Using a Sadowsky Metro with the EQ flat, and an Epifani 501, I was able to get a fairly bright cutting tone. This cabinet pretty much has everything there except extended glassy highs. But there is a distinct edge that the 6" is putting out that sounds like it's high enough 3khz range guessing to satisfy most guys who are playing a mix of rock, funk, R&B.

Now I'm thinking, is it going to be one or two of the NV115. :bassist:
