Best 5 string youve ever played

I have owned and played several basses in my life and none have played as nice as my Musicman HH 5 string stingray the b string is perfect to me.

I will say that i played a lakalnd 55-02 once and that B string was awesome also!!!!

I'd say the nicest 34" 5 strings I've played have been Sadowsky NYC 5s... The nicest playing 35" 5 string I've played was my old Ken Lawrence. Sigh.

So the OP is really asking for advice for best 5 string on a budget.

First, can you get by adding a hipshot to your 4, because a lot of tunes need the low Eb, or D and that's as low as you need. Maybe an option, they work pretty well.

When I was faced with needing a decent 5 and being on a budget, my solution was a used Ray SR5 that I believe I picked up around $700 or so. I just sold it recently as part of some retooling, but that was a fantastic bass. Can not recommend it highly enough. My favorite moderate cost production 5, and they can be had for reasonable cost on the used market. GL

I'm currently looking for a new bass. I currently play an American peavey cirrus 4, but just got a gospel gig and I'm needing the low b. Any ideas? What do you guys like. I needs to be a good deal as I'm a broke college student, but I am a music major and need high quality, as good or better than my cirrus.

Why not get another Cirrus? They are fine basses, and you'll probably have a hard time finding a higher-quality bass in that price range.

I have to agree that any used american G&L is the best used bass you can buy, they are great quality and a great value.

After trying about 15 different makes/models, I went the a Czech-built Spector with 2 EMGs. I'm not even sure what model it is. But it felt and sounded better to me than anything I tried then or since. The low-B is to die for. Nice and tight string tension with a beautiful deep note bloom when played.
