Best 810 (for me)?

I would recommend the SWR Megoliath 810. Why? I have owned the Peavey TVX 810, and used Ampegs as backline. The peavey sounds better to me because it is front ported and sounds more "defined". The ampeg is great for mids but the lows are not completed and the highs have always seemed distant to me when I play through one.

The Eden does sound great, in fact the lows are more complete that my SWR, but the weight tops out at over 200lbs if I'm not mistaken. The SWR has very complete lows, the mids seem to lean toward rock and heavy funk; I say this becuase they are more in your face than on my Goliath III. The SWR is 159 lbs which is also lighter than the Peavey and the Ampeg. The SWR can also be split into 2 seperate 8ohm 410 enclosers by means of two seperate input panels on the back of the cab, in order to run them together in a 4ohm load you have to link the panels together with a Speakon.

Transport wise, this is fairly easy. There are the typical grab bars on top, kick plate at the bottom rear, skid rails on the back for sliding, ***and*** handles on the bottom of the cab so that someone can help you lift up stairs. Hope this helps.

You can ususally find it new for around 1300 and used for 900.

I recommend a Basson B810B. That thing will kick the **** out of any bass rig out there. I own one and that thing is great around the whole spectrum. Crisp, clear highs, punchy mids, and earth shaking lows! I will put it up against any bass cabinet out there and i bet it would put any of them in its place. Unless someone had like 2+ of these cabinets. They NEED atleast 1,500 watts to even run! I'm running 2,500 watts to it and OMG! Well, just putting my two cents in

I recently tried out an Ashdown Mag 8X10 and was fairly impressed. It had no tweeter bu tI think there is a version available with one. The cab was only $800 Canadian brand new which is less than half the price of an Eden 8X10.

There was not a lot of deep low end, but tons of punch and volume. It was a pretty good sounding cab and the best bang for the buck when you consider it's the same price as an eden 2X10.

That being said, I prefer the tone of my Eden 2X10 and 1X15 set up any day!:cool:

I dont agree with the idea that 810 suck in the bass department. I think their mid precense makes them cut trough and fit in the mix with the band. A los of 410s, 810s go as low as 42hz for example the same as most 115 speakers. I second the Aguilar S810 response, they're discontinued but if you find one, try it or get it. They are very nice and flat, but have a warmth and roud bass with great mids IMO. It doesn't have a tweeter so it's not for those slappers or if you like a more "claking" metal sound.

Also, everyone here praises the bergantino Nv610 so check one out if you can. I would stay away from Ampeg 810s since those one really dont have a lot going in the bass department. Mesas are also a very nice reccomendation; try the Powerhouse 1000 that someone suggested.

I think a 4x12 is better for Metal

I have a Mesa Powerhouse 4x12 powered by a Genz Benz GBE1200

Totally killer combination !

I used to have a pair of SWR 4x10's and the Mesa leaves them for dead.

The 12" speakers seem to handle the lows better and have a great midrange.
