Best American AYCE Buffet

This was in today's newspaper.

I don't know if it's still around, but 20 years ago there was a AYCE seafood place in Va Beach called Capt John's that was fantastic.

I don't know about that specific place, since it's a pretty common name for seafood places, but when I go to VA Beach, I always hit Capt. George's, on Laskin Rd. The trick is to catch them when they're putting out the crab clusters, and have nothing else on your plate to get in the way of said crab clusters =0)

Few years ago, me and my then-girlfriend (then wife, then estranged wife...) decided it'd be an awesome idea to ride bicycles from our hotel (on the beach) to Capt. George's for dinner... That includes a few miles of 33rd/Laskin that had nothing in the way of sidewalk or shoulder. Oops. After dinner, we did NOT want to make that ride again in our food-coma state, so we had to call a cab company and make sure they sent a van.

I also like Capt George. Fantastic place. The place I was talking about used to be IIRC around Independence and Va Beach Blvd. But Capt George was equally as good. I was stationed at Little Creek so I went to the other one more frequently.

I could actually see VA beach from our beach on Damneck, but I preferred hanging out on our beach in the day & then going into the city after dark
At the end of my training there, I really wanted to stay, but I made the best of my time there.
Even now when I got out to the beach, I book a room at Damneck, the Navy Lodge is a bargain compared to the hotels in town.

I think that there is no way in hell anyone is eating 12,000 calories in one sitting unless you are a competitive eater who trains for that kind of stuff.

I just posted that video to put in context how much food 12,000 calories is.

I think depends on what kind of food you are eating. It's easy to eat wings, they are all protein and fat, no carbs whatsoever to fill you up. There are also way more calories per gram as opposed to pasta or some other type of food. Anyway, If I was drunk and maybe stoned, I think I could easily handle eating 50 chicken wings. Maybe it's not 12K calories, but it's still a bunch and I'm not a competitive eater or anything.
