Best Amp For Reggae- Small Venues

I love the Ampeg B100R but I don't think it has the horsepower to pull off super bass heavy reggae.


I would get a GK 400RB and two Ampeg 115 used

I've used one of these with the extension on a couple gigs and found it not to be able to perform up to the volume I'd want without good FOH support. I didn't find it was enough even with good FOH.

Used 410's are dirt cheap and can usually handle the bass heavy tones you'll undoubtedly be pushing thru them better than a 210 or 115. I'm not a fan of Hartke cabs but their SS amps with a tube pre seem pretty solid and affordable, especially used.

Depends if he needs a head too at $600. I don't know exactly.

I'd be looking for a used heavy 4x10. Lots of them out there cheap, as many bassists are looking at newer lighter rigs.

A new Fender Rumble 1x15 cab is $300 and only weighs 39 lbs (which is really light for a 1x15 cab). I would buy two of them. Get something like an Eden E300 used for $200 and you're set.

I know that's over your budget but it's something to consider. Spend most of your budget on the cab or cabs you want. I recommend new cabs and a used amp.

If you are becoming a reggae specialist, then 15" speakers make a lot of sense for you. It's not just the low-frequency extension - the room coverage will also be better for that throbbing, low-frequency groove. Have seen 4/10 and 1/15 combos in this realm but they never seem to sound as right as 1 or 2/15.

At Musicians Friend, the brand new Acoustic BN3115 300 watts and a 15" Neo speaker. $599 plus free shipping. These amps are loud for the money.

First of ll I'd be looking at Eden, Aguilar and Carvin products. Their amps and cabs seem to be voiced on the dark and deep side. Next I'd be looking for about 300 to 500 watts on the head and a single 15" or a 212 cab. Play a Fender Telecaster Modern Player or a Thunderbird Goth bass through the rig with the neck pickup full on and strung with Fat Beams for the win.

Inexpensive, reliable, and fat? Sounds like Peavey to me.

You could pick up a good 1x15 peavy combo, or cab and head for under $250-300 any day of the week, and have some change left over for emergencies. Would even leave you enough to grab an Epiphone EB-O, which I imagine would make a great reggae bass.

the old heavy cabs are cheap and plentiful right now as others have stated- 1x15 or 4x10

There is a Anpeg B200R which from what I've read has great power and tone, more so than the B100R

In addition, with the band your in, you MUST have some type of P.A. equipment? If so, you could get a nice powered sub to add to the system and get a GOOD preamp/di. Trust that you'll here BO-BO-BO-BO all night! Lighter ah burn!
